Yup, that pretty much describes every trip I've ever taken to Best Buy in my life.   

It's called a "loss leader" for Best Buy.  They probably aren't expecting to make a lot of money off CD alone by promising to buy so many copies.  However, it gets people into their stores that walk out with TV's and stereos.

Not sure, ACDC just shunned itunes, there seems to be a bit of a backlash going on at the moment. It all depends on how Axl wants to present CD to the world, as individual tracks or an entire album, a work of art. ACDC didnt like the idea of people being able to download individual tracks so decided not to go with apple!

I didn't check the net for two days, and this is what I found  

I'll truly believe this when I see an official statement: "Chinese Democracy is released xx.xx.2008. Peace, W.Axl Rose"

On reflection,  I think I was dead wrong in expecting the first announcement to come from a source other than GNR.  it's not someone else's release of a game or a film. It's GNR's damn album, a fruit of their endeavours.

Axl should declare the release proud and loud.

Several possible scenarios are (in no particular order):

1 - General release of Chi Dem worldwide, but Best Buy in the US gets a Special Edition Chi Dem
2 - Chi Dem gets worldwide release EXCEPT the US, where it is ONLY available through Best Buy for a period of time, then gets general US release. (This is like AC/DC I believe)
3 - Chi Dem gets an exclusive Best Buy release in the US for x weeks and then get a general worldwide release.
4 - Chi Dem is only ever available for purchase though Best Buy in the US

5 - first Chi Dem gets an exclusive Best Buy release in the US, several days later a general release outside of the US starts and then after some weeks it gets available in regular record stores in the us.

4 isn't an option if they actually want to sell the product.

I REALLY would hate to see this turn into another battling ground if it either a) turns out to be incorrect or b) things change and thus the release date changes before an official announcement is made.

i doubt it, but it would be sweet. god knows we've suffered enough. but then again they don't owe us nothing, so it's their call if they wanna do it or can do it now.


but the thing i have a hard time believing is if this is all true or a hoax. like the best buy private listen to 3 tracks... i suppose we'll see.

and another thing is how will the band promote it if at least 2 of their members are promoting other people's material, NIN and Rhianna

OH MY GOD! OMG! OMG!

I'm excited...but not TOO excited yet.

What I can't tell from the article is if they got some sort of "on the ground" confirmation, or if they're just mashing together all the various forum rumors swirling around into a story.

It might just be a case of them reporting what we're all talking about, rather than having any sort of solid info from someone who was at the BB event.  I don't know.

I agree. Until I see an official statement with Axl's name on it, or on the GNR homepage, I'm excited, but taking this with a grain of salt.
