Rose: No, no, that's not true at all. In fact, actually, I have re-recorded "Appetite" and --

You re-recorded "Appetite For Destruction?"
Rose: Yes, I have.

The whole album?
Rose: Yes.

Whoa.
Rose: Well, with the exception of two songs, because we replaced those with "You Could Be Mine," and "Patience," and why do that? Well, we had to rehearse them anyway to be able to perform them live again, and there were a lot of recording techniques and certain subtle styles and drum fills and things like that that are kind of '80s signatures that subtly could use a little sprucing up... a little less reverb and a little less double bass and things like that.

Who are the musicians who have re-recorded "Appetite?"
Rose: Josh Freese on drums, Tommy Stinson on bass, Paul Tobias on guitar -- you guys know him as Paul Huge, that's how it's been written everywhere. It's Paul Tobias on guitar, and Robin Finck was on lead guitar, but that... that will stay on some of it. Robin's guitar will stay on some, but not all. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, exactly, when I would be putting that out. But you know, it has a lot of energy. Learning the old Guns songs and getting them up, you know, putting them on tape, really forced everybody to get them up to the quality that they needed to be at. Once the energy was figured out by the new guys, how much energy was needed to get the songs right, then it really helped in the writing and recording process of the new record.

that'd be cool to see the DAT master be released.

I seem to remember I've read somewhere they recorded (or rehearsed?) four different versions of KOHD, and one of em was a reggea version.

Is my memory playing tricks on me now? Anyone else?

hopefully the rerecorded AFD will remain "just for learning purposes" and never be released

i have no interest in hearing the current guns butcher old guns on record - and if it was ever released - I think the court of public opinion would absolutely crucify and vilify Axl

It's hard to take your opinions very seriously based on your name (though I appreciate that you don't attempt to hide your real feelings - seriously), but I tend to agree with the latter half of your statement.

That said, I'd love to hear it, 'cause Guns N' Roses did a spectacular job with all of the older material when I saw them four times in 2006.

I used to have this version of SCOM somewhere, now I've lost it Sad

I'd be intrigued to hear a re-recorded version of AFD. Though it'd be interesting to know which line-up actually recorded it... probably the 2001-02 line-up.

my feelings on the current Guns has softened since the release of Democracy Shocked

I thought they did much better in 2006 as well; but, the timing of the re-recording of AFD predates the 2006 lineup - as Axl said "Josh Freese on drums, Tommy Stinson on bass, Paul Tobias on guitar -- you guys know him as Paul Huge, that's how it's been written everywhere. It's Paul Tobias on guitar, and Robin Finck was on lead guitar, but that... that will stay on some of it."

and before 2006, from the footage I saw fromm 2000/2002, they really were butchering the AFD songs - and that has nothing to do with my username

well, i still swear that the re-recorded version of rocket queen was floating around at one point, and i had it but lost it during a reformat.  I know I had this at one point.  it wasn't all over the place, and a lot of fans didn't seem to know about it, but there was some talk of it on one of the forums and i asked the poster and he send me a rapidshare link.  i've been listening to GNR since I was 8 (yea, in 1988/1989) and I know this was legit axl...  not a cover band.  and this wasn't some fake thing downloaded from some p2p network.

at any rate, perhaps it was a studio version that was spliced into the live era recording or sonmething...  i guess i'm just saying this again, though, in hopes that someone happens across this and has it sitting around.

When Gnr re-recorded Appetite didn't they omit a song and replace it with a newer version of You Could Be Mine

And Patience as well.
