I know there were (at least) two released/leaked tracks from the AFD that axl re-recorded in 1999.

The common one was SCOM. I've heard the Big Daddy version, but does anyone know if the re-recorded song exists without the live/old beginning?

also, another re-recorded track leaked from these sessions (or it was rumored to be from those sessions, but definately was a new GNR version of the song)... I know because I had it at one time, but have since lost it. I think it was rocket queen.... does anyone have this?

also, I've posted this at another forum, and some tried to accuse me of downloading a fake from bearshare or limewire or something...  i just wanna say upfront that i'm not a fool and i don't use those p2p shit apps anyhow.  I got this from another fan about 4 or 5 years ago, and it was definitely legit.  or am i making this all up?

I've never heard anything besides SCOM.

And I think you neither.

I think you're talking about Civil War. That was from a GNR cover band, I guess, but people tried to make it like it was from the new band. There's no old GNR song re-recorded out there as far as I know.

It was a re-recording of Mr. Brownstone titled (at least when I downloaded it) Mr. Brownstone 1999. I don't know if it was a re-recording or just a remaster/mix... but I would lean more towards a remix of some sort because it seemed almost exactly the same just different tones, etc. It was definitely official sounding though, not like a fan remix. The intro drums had less reverb... sounded cleaner.

I don't have it anymore though :/. Erased my computer forgot to take the songs and back them up.

I believe the ending of Rocket Queen on Live Era (from the 6:20 mark) has vocals that Axl re-recorded for the album's release...  That could be what you are thinking of (not the new band, though!)

Yeah! I remember this... remember hearin' the two versions of Brownstone thousand times to see the differences... I think that was just a remix...

there are two versions of kohd...but both by the old band.  the days of thunder version is sometimes thought to be by the new band.  although correct me if im wrong but i think the days version has steven on drums and matt's on the uyi version.

I don't know what he's talking about, but I can hear Robin in Live Era's ''Mr Brownstone''.

Pay attention to the part ''I used to do a little but a little wouldn't do it [...]'' at the end of the song.

It's Robin peace

The other version of Mr Brownstone was the one that David Niven mixed. According to Slash's book Niven wanted to have a go at mixing
but the band didn't like it said it sounded to hollow and went with the other two who mixed it think it was Clink and Barberio(sp)

Out of the shadows, into...Hell?

« Reply #17 on: September 25, 2008, 08:12:10 PM »

This whole thread has my head spinning...the only thing I have heard confirmed, or officially discussed was that the 'original' songs were recorded by the 'new' bandmembers in the run-up to either 2002 or 2006/2007 tour, as part of Axl's training with new players to master them.  Have these recordings been released?  I thought Big Daddy version of SCOM was Sheryl Crowe?  If this material is out there (legally), how can I (legally) get it?

it's basically the live-era version and during the solo the new band kicks in and i think you can get it at Newgnr.com
