SLASH did a cover story interview for Mojo. This is an article to get to catch up on what's been happening recently and a good summary of the past. SLASH himself says he's heard that it's a good interview.

SLASH talks about other things he's doing in his life. He's writing the score for a low-budget movie from May through August. The movie is called This Is Not A Movie with Mexican director Olallo Rubio. SLASH says he listens to soundtracks all the time and is happy to be involved in this.

He's also working on a cartoon called The Misadventures of Grundy, about a high school band. Grundy was his own nickname when he was 14 and racing his BMX bike. The cartoon guitarist looks like our man. SLASH's brother encouraged SLASH to resurrect this cartoon that he's been playing around with since he himself was in high school. Ash, SLASH's brother, is also very artistic; and the two may do some of the backgrounds together. As we said, try to get this issue as the pictures and story are well worth it.

Are you kidding, Slash has a brother called Ash?  I know Slash isn't his real name, but still.....

Cool news though, looking forward to reading/hearing these.

According to Slash's book Ash's real name is Albion. If I was a man and had a name like Albion I would go by anything else besides that. Ash sounds one hundred percent better. What in the hell were his parents thinking anyway? And yes this is cool news about Slash!

A little on the movie...

35 thongs and a glue gun

June 4th, 2008 @ 04:34 PM

A few weeks ago Lupita, my costume designer friend, offered me yet another fantastic opportunity to design a number of special pieces for a Mexican Independent film named This is Not a Movie, directed by Olallo Rubio. In the 1990s Olallo Rubio was a well known radio host, obsessed with rock and roll and now has recently moved into making films. His first was a 2007 documentary So, What?s Your Price and now his second, This is Not a Movie, which is about to begin production.

I created 35 Americana themed outfits for this second film with influences spanning from David Bowie and Guns and Roses, to Dita von Teese and Dolly Parton?stars and stripes, jean thongs, pinwheel nipple pasties, rhinestone and fringe galore. The film stars both Peter Coyote, from one of my favorite films BitterMoon!! and Edward Furlong, remember the cute boy from the original Terminator?

I plan to be on set for a few days while they film, so I will hopefully have some interesting pictures to post in a few weeks, especially of the strippers?!

I really adore this film business.

Slash, Former Legendary Guns N' Roses Guitar Player, to Compose Score for Mexican Film

Written and directed by Olallo Rubio, the film takes place in Las Vegas and boasts international talent

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 4

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Slash, the former guitarist for Guns
n' Roses and the current guitarist for Velvet Revolver, will compose the score
for the Mexican film, This is not a movie, the second production written and
directed by Olallo Rubio.

An English-language film, it was 100% independently financed with Mexican
funds. After having filmed several scenes in Estudios Churubusco, Mexico City,
production recently moved to Las Vegas.

"It's very cutting-edge, very artistic, and a little bit trippy," said
Slash when discussing the film with the English-language magazine Mojo. "It's
dark, and jagged and a bit surreal, in and out of reality, you know?"

The writer and director, Olallo Rubio, also commented on the film, "The
idea was to create a very eclectic psychedelic score with sounds generated by
acoustic and electric guitars. I was looking for a guitarist with the ability
to create very emotional music, but at the same time, the freedom to use any
type of effects to explore different sounds. Slash was interested in the
project, and so far he has composed the music for six segments, we're very
excited with his work."

Saw Mark Lanegan on Saturday night. Amazing show.

That song isn't amazing.

Go listen to his latest album Blues Funeral to hear something truly amazing.

I bet!

I have tickets to see him when he hits Boston. Really looking forward to it.
Who's his backing band?

I personally can't file either So Long Sin City or Blues Funeral under truly amazing yet, but yeah he never really disappoints.
I'm digging it all. My favorite at the moment is Deep Black Vanishing Train.

I was trying to track down the Slash/Lanegan composition for a while.
Seems like Lanegan's B-Sides hold up well against most artists of todays singles.
