Well this certainly is fantastic news! Appears that everything SEEMS to be going in the right direction. Hopefully a fall release. Releasing the single this summer would also seem logical. One step at a time though. Let's enjoy this bit of news for now.

The NY Times story is correct.
An announcement is planned for Monday for Rock Band 2 and Shackler's Revenge will be in the game.
Awesome! I'll just have to wait for the Nintendo Wii version as I don't have a Xbox 360, but it sounds like the Wii version will be out shortly after the 360 version. |

Electronic Arts is holding their E3 press conference today at 3:00 Pacific, which is about eight hours and fifteen minutes from the time of this post.
I would imagine that EA/Harmonix has some claim to exclusivity on the song - meaning, it will debut on Rock Band 2 - so we probably won't see it released as a single beforehand. Maybe concurrently, maybe shortly after the RB2 release, but not before. Works best for both parties. EA/Harmonix get to brag about debuting a hotly anticipated song, and Guns get top billing, featured in one of the most anticipated games of the year. Win/win. We just have to wait a little for the single.
Edit: I guess it's possible that the track list will be revealed during Microsoft's conference (which is in just three and a half hours), but with EA holding their own event tonight, I wouldn't bet on it. If you want to set a countdown.. roughly eight hours is a good bet.
