Just got the new Entertainment Weekly.  It's their 1000th issue and the did lists of the best movies, music, TV, video games of the past 25 years.

Appetite is #30...just one slot below Kelly Clarkson at #29.  Yeah...seriously.

the top five were 1. Purple rain, 2. miseducation of lauryn hill, 3.  Achtung baby, 4.  College dropout, 5.  Madonna

Here's the blurb on it...

Who doesn't hear the propulsive opening chords of "WTJ" and feel like a teenager all over again?  Pulled straight from the dirty booze-sticky clubs of the Sunset Strip, GNR conjured up an album of real urgency and raw glamour - without a bum track.

Actually it shows how awesome gnr were. Its not a pole whether YOU like kelly Clarkson or not. She is an artist of TODAY. And she can barely edge out a band that put an album out probably when she was 1 year old.  The music of today really leaves a lot to be desired. If this album ever comes out, look out music!

Believe it or not I actually like some of Kelly Clarkson's music. I like a large variety of shit and though its not the greatest, its catchy. Plus she is fuckin hot.  hihi But theres no fucking way Guns N Roses should be on a list above Kelly Clarkson. Its basicly saying her music is better than guns. Whether she is an artist of TODAY or not it doesn't change the fact that she should be higher than Guns. And how does it show how awesome guns are, because they have lasting power to get on a list yet their not or were not as good musicly as kelly fuckin clarkson? What a crock.  smoking

No, there is always bias in any poll. The people posting the "results" of this pole are younger people who know more about her music than a group who has not done anything in 20 years. If it was really the BEST of all time. Than there would be a lot more bands ahead of her.

While I know these "Best Of" lists aren't meant to be taken literally, that is kinda pathetic. I do think Kelly Clarkson is kinda talented, but to rate her album above Appetite is moronic. Oh well. BTW, why the hell was Lauryn Hill's cd so praised? I remember it swept the VMA's and Grammies that year it came out, but she's bat-shit crazy and waaaaay overrated and Purple Rain is a fantastic album, one of the best, but not THE best. Achtung Baby! was a better choice...

Happy to see Prince getting some mad love.
U have to consider the mag

EW isnt a rock type magazine and GNR have been out of the public eye so long, i guess things get overlooked.

Nothing wrong with Purple Rain.. but No.1  ?  peace
To be fair I wouldn't know what to put at No.1, as my No.1's alter all the time.
Many of you (here) might laugh, but yesterday I purchased Rihanna's good girl gone bad. Its good for about 3 tracks  hihi she's a cute girl, and there's no denying Umbrella has something going for it, all being not a heavy rock sound.

That same issue also credits Axl with influencing fashion (it mentions jeans, bandanas, and long hair).  I don't have the issue in front of me, or I'd reference the page and quote it....

I can't believe some of you are taking an EW list so fucking seriously.  Like Lostroses said, where were the Rolling Stones on that list?  How about Springsteen?  Pink Floyd?  The Beatles?  It's just a stupid list by an entertainment magazine.  Guns is lucky to be on the list, given their recent (and not so recent) lack of activity.  Like freddiebrph said (more or less) it's just nice that people still think about them.

Some of you are acting like EW raped your mother.  Relax.

EDIT: Rereading the original post, I see it's just the best of the past 25 years.  So the Beatles wouldn't be on the list, and the other artists I mentioned all released their best work longer ago than 25 years.  ...Born in the USA might make the cut.  But my point remains.  Don't take everything so seriously.

People who are still teenagers, I'm guessing. You people have to get used to the idea that a lot of people just don't like Guns N' Roses that much. The people over at the Kelly Clarkson board are probably asking the same questions about whatever album showed up ahead of her.

Kelly and her fans are probably just as annoyed as us that even she was listed above GNR since she's such a big GNR fan!!! Wink
