Isn't this the same guy who said he wouldn't perform certain GN'R classics live a few years ago? Then he started doing it and now here we are.

Hell, didn't Slash say like 2 weeks ago he didn't want to talk about Guns N' Roses anymore, he's not in that band, blah, blah, and now here we are.

I remember a second article where he explicitly said "I'm not in Guns N' Roses," but here is a similiar article for now ok

Slash has another hope for his solo effort ? that it might stop people asking him if he's going to rejoin Guns N? Roses. The guitarist told 6 Music he?s keen to put those days behind him ? ?I just feel for people that don't seem to get it. All things considered, it's been a really long time, and everybody's moved on.

?At the same time I appreciate that I was part of a band that had such a huge impact and touched so many people, and I feel bad for them that it's not around - but it is what it is..."

Because a) it's unnecessary, and b) it shows a blatant disrespect to the song.
And in the age of the internet, there's no such thing as "only released in Japan" any more. Everyone has heard it.

disrespect to who??  you?  anyone who was ever a fan of PC?  he was one of the writers of the song.. he can do whatever he wants to do with it.    unless you are axl, izzy, adler or duff.. i don't see why you would care.. PLUS it is only released in japan.. you have to seek it out on the internet is you want to hear it.. i tried looking for a download.. just to have.. but couldn't find it.   its not like you are going to hear this on the raidio or in a bar.  for this single and b side to get this much attention is amazing.. i don't think slash could have possibly hoped for more.  if people are this passionate about the whole album its going to top the charts.  marketing brilliance

No... not disrespect to me. Disrespect to the song itself. Please understand this, instead of repeating the same argument over and over again.

He's "moved on"..that's why he's re-recording and re-releasing a 22 year old song from a band he quit 13 years ago hihi

It doesn't matter who else still plays them. Slash has said several times that he wouldn't play the songs and that he has moved on from the whole Guns thing. Yet he still plays the songs and talks about the band. Correct me if I'm wrong but I have not read any comments by anyone else who was in the band saying the same things slash has said.

I think Slash is "over" GNR in as much as he knows the chances of him rejoining are virtually nonexistant and he hopes people stop asking him if he'll ever reunite with Axl. I think he's moved on personally, not musically, and why should he? If I were him, I know I'd still be playing the old GNR songs or even making different versions with others (perhaps not Cypress Hill... Tongue). He should be able to talk about the old days and play the old songs. If I'd played on AFD and the UYI albums, I'd hang on to that until the day I died.

If it ever gets to the stage where Slash is standing on a street corner, having not slept for a week, yelling at passers by "I used to be in Guns N' Roses!", then perhaps I might be worried. Cheesy

No, I think my post just went over your head.

There is an inherent contradiction between "moving on" and re-recording and re-releasing something that was a primary component of what you're moving on from.

To the best of my knowledge, Slash and Duff are the only Appetite' members to talk about "moving on" from Guns N' Roses. The key difference between these two being Duff hasn't felt compelled to re-record and re-release Guns N' Roses songs on his albums.

Technically, Slash hasn't either. Wink

So are you saying Slash shouldn't even be allowed to play those songs live, because he has no desire to be a part of the band he was in when he wrote them any more? I don't think he should have re-recorded it, but that's a little excessive.
And it's only certain GN'R songs, that he said Velvet Revolver would never play, because Scott wouldn't be able to do them properly - by his own admission.  Only song I'm surprised he performs live still is Sweet Child O' Mine, because he'd made it clear that he wasn't a fan of the song.

i guess my confusion is how can someone disrespect a song.. i mean its just a song.. this is slash's job.  its a buisiness. he would be crazy to kill the golden goose that is his link to GnR.  while he might truely have no interest in ever rejoining guns.. i highly doubt that he would ever want to be forgotten.  anyone who thinks of the music biz as anything other than a buisiness is somone who hasn't made any money by making music.  its his job and family's lively hood.. if he throws a cover of an old song he did on a b side to strum up some press then.. well done.. good move.

i guess my confusion is how can someone disrespect a song.. i mean its just a song..

Can you understand that the GN'R song in question might be more than "just a song" to some GN'R fans? And that these people might not like the fact that one of the original performers has re-recorded the said song with people who many GN'R fans don't really listen to/respect?

If some of you can get that into your heads, maybe you can drop the whole "it's just a fun song and only released in Japan as a B-side so you shouldn't care" routine.
