what an insightful contribution.  Roll Eyes

I agree tho that the "rock superstar" performace was pretty cool.   But adding rap to Paradise City just doesn't work.  Slash is a cariculture of his former self and he really needs to think twice before doing stupid shit like releasing a new version of PC.

Back when terminator 4 was coming out, we had this same argument about Nu Guns rereleasing YCBM.
A lot of the people being negative about Slash here are the same people that wanted YCBM to be rereleased.

This is just a Japanese B side!  Relax dudes!

THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS' NICOLE SCHERZINGER To Guest On SLASH's New Solo Album - Oct. 13, 2009

Nicole Scherzinger, the lead singer of R&B girl group THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS, has told Ace Showbiz that she has recorded a guest appearance on VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash's upcoming solo album. "I just did a song with Slash for his album, and I just did a duet with Alice Cooper," she said.

Nicole performed with Slash in Las Vegas on Friday, October 2 at a special concert, billed "Slash & Friends", which celebrated the 20th anniversary of Las Vegas hotel, casino and white tiger playground the Mirage. At the gig, they delivered one of the DOLLS' hit singles, "When I Grow Up" (see video below).

Well never before has there been such a horrible choice for a B-side to a Japanese single.  Simple as that.  If Slash wanted to re-do Paradise City with  some formation of Velvet Revolver, fine.  I could accept that.  But that performance with Cypress Hill was embarassing.  Why he'd want to dig that up is beyond me.

well, we haven't heard it yet... the version on the single that is.

But this whole solo album is obviously gonna be VERY controversial on here!  Of course not everybody is going to be happy with all the collaborations.  But some people appear to hate the album already, and we haven't heard it yet!  (Not referring to you Faldor Smiley

Im looking forward to the tracks with the other ex gunners and rock legends but im sure Slash probably wants some mainstream attention so Fergie may help with that.

But Maroon 5 and the pussycat dolls... im not sure ill be in to them tracks!  but ill wait an see.

Stop trying to validate this shit by bringing GN'R into this.

This has nothing to do with GN'R. Not a single thing. "oh but Axl re-recorded Appetite  yes". Is that the best you got?

It's hilarious to see you Slash fans be sooo "open minded" about this b-side. You're the ones who've been upset ever since he quit GN'R and how they don't play the old songs "like you're supposed to" anymore.

But bringing Fergie and Cypress Hill into the mix is fine!

Maybe next he could do Sweet Child O' Mine with the Cookie Monster, some guy who didn't win Idol and MC Hammer?

In my opinion it's just another lame attempt at getting back into the spotlight. What he didn't have enough songs written for this thing to use one as a b-side? There's not enough other rock classics he could have Fergie sing? Is this the only one she knows? If that's the case, couldn't somebody send her a rock classics iTunes essentials collection?

Who are you arguing with? I think another song would be a better choice but I don't care that much. I just want to hear the new stuff.

Besides re-record SCOM for a stupid movie, so? It's fine.... anyway, Slash has the all rigth to do whatever he want on Paradise City, after all he came up with the Intro, Riff and the amazing guitar solo.

The problem here is that Slash will be involved with "Guns n' Roses" thing AGAIN. That bother you isn't?. Well, get over it
Slash will be connected with Guns n' roses stuff eternally, you can nothing to do about it.

For years and years you guy were the ones saying "it was a band! Everybody was important, even Adler!".

Now Slash is above everybody else? I see...  hihi

Yeah, he's always conveniently using the GN'R name when it fits his needs.

Not Velvet Revolver.

He's "connected" to the band he quit 13 years ago. And I'm the one who needs to get over it?  rofl

"I'm not in that band anymore" - Slash.

Maybe you need to get over it....

I'm just wondering if the people who are now upset about Slash's version of Paradise City would also be upset if Izzy would suddenly release a reggae version of Paradise City on his next solo album, or if that would be 'ok cause that would be Izzy'.

Actually Izzy tried to play a reggae version of Paradise City back in 2000 with Duff during their mini tour in Japan, but in the end it was dropped for the setlists.

Of course it would be okay! Izzy is friends with Axl, so by implication it's all good.

Oh God.

The difference is that Izzy would probably do it with taste.... In my opinion, Fergie and taste doesn't mix.  Tongue

Wonder if people would be upset if Axl said he re-recorded AFD... Oh wait! Of course they wouldn't, not at all. Especially the open minded Slash fans!

Do you think all Zeppelin fans loved the idea of Jimmy Page playing Whole Lotta Love at the Olympics with Leona Lewis? Even that was for a cause and not "just" a way to promote a solo album.

I'm glad you Slash fans are open minded. But it's weird that the open mindedness doesn't include understanding why GN'R fans who grew up listening to this song might react to news that it'll be sung by a person who pretty much defines what's wrong with music these days...

Edited to add: Maybe you guys can explain to me what exactly is wrong with the original version of Paradise City since we all need to hear Fergie sing it? It's not good enough and Fergie will sing it like it should be done? She's the best alternative out of all the singers in the world?

The good thing that comes from this is that none of you will ever be able to whine about any of GN'R's performances of the old songs. Smiley

The whole "he can do whatever he wants with his song" excuse doesn't work. I'm aware of that. That's not even the issue. At what point would you react? Would it be ok if he recorded a cover with Cookie Monster? I mean, that's also "doing whatever he wants with his song"...

Nobody said anything was wrong with the original version. You're always negative aren't you? People only cover songs because something is wrong with the original?
This is a different take on the same song. I don't care much for Fergie either and if the song turns out to be bad, it's bad.

The good thing that comes from this is that none of you will ever be able to whine about any of GN'R's performances of the old songs. Smiley

Wrong. Any playing that IMO makes the song better is welcome. Ron on Don't Cry or BH on Nightrain or Paradise City for instance.
Some twat bending a nice sounding song all out of shape is not going to go down well, even if some of you are willing to swallow it and praise
him regardless.

I don't know if Paradise City will be a live performance or a studio version, but in that case it could be really interesting, maybe a modified Slash's solo?
On the other hand, it's nice to hear Paradise City guitars performed correctly sometimes... Smiley

About Fergie, well, if the version is recorded at a studio, her voice will be excelent. There are some singers who actually cannot sing ANYMORE, but their records, surprisingly, are great...

Anyway, I think the most important thing here is this song "Sahara". I'm really looking forward to listen it.
