I wonder if  Michael Jackson was ever apprached about doing a song-people are already asking why John Mayer (who never met Jackson) played at his memorial and not Slash, who it seems Jackson liked-while having an unreleased tack with Michael Jackson on your album would be huge, I could imagine the legal issues that would have to be dealt with would be mind boggling at this point

I'd say he was still in Norway doing the Slash and friends thing when they were organizing all of it.

John Mayer played on the Fall out Boy Cover of Beat It.  Slash's Solo on Beat it was much better.

From an interview with Josh Freese...

On a related Guns N' Roses note, you're recording with Slash. How's that going?

"It's awesome. He's making kind of a Santana record with a bunch of different singers. There's an Ozzy track, an Iggy Pop track, a Fergie track?Chris Cornell's going to be on it. As of now, I'm the only drummer on it, but you never know..."

STEVEN ADLER's Guest Appearance On SLASH's Solo Album To Be Recorded Next Week - July 9, 2009

According to a posting on Slash's Twitter account, the guitarist's former GUNS N' ROSES bandmate Steven Adler will play on Slash's forthcoming solo album. Adler is scheduled to lay down his drum track sometime next week.

Slash has been recording his solo CD with former NINE INCH NAILS drummer Josh Freese and ex-JANE'S ADDICTION bassist Chris Chaney. Confirmed guest singers so far include Ozzy Osbourne and AVENGED SEVENFOLD's M. Shadows. Freese told MusicRadar.com that Iggy Pop, Fergie (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson) of the BLACK EYED PEAS and Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE) will also appear on the LP. Working songtitles include "We're All Gonna Die", "These Last Words", "Crucify The Dead" and "Beautiful, Dangerous".

Ummm, let me try this again.... Fall Out Boy, A Band, covered the song "Beat It" by Michael Jackson......  The guitar solo on Fall Out Boy's cover is played by John Mayer.....  John Mayer was like 3 when Eddie Van Halen recorded the original Beat It.  This is  COVER.  Look it up on youtube.....

Also, look on Youtube for michael jackson 30th anniversary, and you'll find video of Slash performing Beat It with him at Madison Square Garden in 2001.  He wrote his own solo, because he didn't feel comfortable playing Eddie's.

I thought John Mayer's version was ok... it was the only likeable thing about the Fall Out Boy cover.  And John's take on Human Nature at the memorial service was great, too.

I like that solo.  Its during that song his Pace Maker went nuts and he saw bright blue flashes in his eyes.
