Oh, come on, you just secretly wish you were famous enough to be one!!!!   hihi

I like a couple of the t-shirts on there.  I wonder if my fanfire VR merchandise coupons would be accepted for the Slash merchandise.  Probably not.   Doesn't matter, because I can't find them, anyway.

Though I don't agree with all their product choices, I think it's slightly different when a band sells merchandise versus one person.

So every solo artist should just join a band?  Jimi, Elvis, Madonna, Cher, etc?  You make no sense and have no argument.  There is a demand for Slash gear, he provides it.  I have a pair of Axl Converse shoes......

It's not really about being a solo artist. Slash isn't even a solo artist if you wanna use that defense....

If you read his post, he mentions the word "brand".

Are you gonna argue that the name Slash is less of a brand today than ten or five years ago?

He can sell all the top hats he wants, but it's quite apparent that he's branched into stuff besides music to make a living.

You are right.  He has other income.  I guess now he is a "sell out" or something.  Or is it possible companies approach him because they know his product sells and then the helps design it.  Frankly, I don't care and the more people that know of Slash usually become fans of his music (which a huge part of him is GNR).  So what is the negative?  Jarmo, your favorite band ever has one of the most famous guitar players ever in its back catologue.  Where is the problem?

Make hay whilst the sun shines!

Slash has adopted a perfectly normal business model for any business wanting to make money and capitilise on their product.(That can be a band, sports team, commercial business or individual)

Slash is a household name (The product is he's image.)  He has become a business.

In my opinion he has been very clever and marketed himself brilliantly. The image has remained constant over 20yrs to avoid all confusion which ultimately adds serious $$ a yr to he's Bank Account of the back of it.

Who in there right mind wouldnt want to capitilise? Integrity in todays muti media market is thing of the past........ If he didnt do it, someone would be producing bootlegs of he's image.

All credit to the guy.  beer

I didn't say there was a problem.

He could sell his body on the street if he wanted to for all I care.

I made an observation that he's gone from just being a musician into being a brand.

But is that a bad thing? Commercially speaking of course it's not. Surely he has done the smart thing!

I kind of hope that your comment on not caring if he was selling hes body on the street was tongue in cheek....

Like it or not, without him there would likely never have been an Axl Rose or Guns N' Roses and without them never a Slash!

Let's not go down this road please, thank you.

On topic...

For better or worse, "Slash" is indeed a brand name - there's no getting around it.

No problems with that here, it his right to market his image how he pleases.

However..

I think at some point - "enough is enough" needs to kick in, go "less is more" and restore a bit of mystique.

I think if someone told Slash to cut his hair, stop smoking, and wear a blazer and tie, that would be "selling out."

Is that a Rivers Cuomo reference?

I think Slash stopping smoking, even if he did it because someone else told him to, would be wise if he wants to increase the chances of having a healthy life and watching his kids grow up.  There's nothing sell out about that.  The other things, it depends on the intent.
