AXL SLASH DUFF = GOAT

« on: May 17, 2008, 11:17:24 AM »

I think GN'R have always done an incredible job with their cover songs, live and on record.  While I haven't heard any rumors about cover songs that may be included on CD, I just thought it would be interesting to hear opinions on whether you think they should include one, and if so, what song would you like to hear?

I for one would love to hear a high quality studio cut of Todd Rundgren's Dust in the Wind which is one of my favorite bootleg cuts.  And does anyone know where and when this was performed?

Also, Sway would be cool since we already heard this lineup play that.  And for something totally out of leftfield, how about a cover of Cream's Sunshine of Your Love.  Axl would sound awesome on this song.

Yes.  Sign me up for "Sailing".  I loved how that sounded live when the boys performed it.  Axl's voice gives me chills on that one.

I like "Dust In The Wind" a lot too.  That was performed a bunch of times on the UYI tour in 92/93 I believe.

From www.gnrsource.com

"Dust In The Wind" was performed a few times as an intro to November Rain, during 1993.

Notable Performances:
June 25, 1993 - Frankfurt, Germany - First known performance.
July 17, 1993 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - Last known performance.

Yeah, I for one would love to hear Dust In The Wind or some other great cover on CD. I have DITW cover on my mp3 player and can't get enough of it, Axl's voice is amazing!

No-I think with TSI? and the covers they did on Lies and UYI are enough-I've never really been fond of bands doing covers, especially when their own material is better, I would rahter hear new material

Back In The Fuckin' UK would be awsome as a kind of additional track on the 1st single.
Even as a cover on CD it would be cool.

Assuming there's more than one album of material to be released, a cover would be fine with me.  After so many years of silence, however, all I really care about right now is new original material.

^^ Haha. I'm not trying to make a dig at VR, but when I heard Contraband I thought "this sounds like it was written for Axl Rose".

I don't really mind if there is a cover on "Chinese Democracy". We're not sure the format it comes in or the release schedule for the other material, but Axl's covers are always well done and unique. I loved him singing "Sailing" in 2006. Very heartfelt and well done. What I'd like to see more than anything is a track that's completely original, written by Axl and Elton John.

I'd rather not having a cover on cd but if there is I would love for it to be sailing.

I get what you're saying (GN'R could stand to have a few more original hit singles)... and even somewhat agree... but the counter-argument to your point is that GN'R must be pretty damn good at covers if they have that many on their GH cd.

I remember Axl saying in an interview, RS in '92 perhaps, that he was very moved by U2's One and had kicked around the idea of GN'R covering it... I would LOVE to hear that. ok

Sailing would be awesome too. Especially cool b/c it was something the new band dug up and brought back to life...

thats as pointless as tits on a bull...

if gnr (current) were to do a cover, I want them to do a cover of a song that the band hasn't played before.......

whats the point in covering gnr's old songs, you still hear axl singing it the same way?
