What is the week ending for the one online?

Someone posted this on Metal Sludge - I don't know if they're "inside" or what and posted it early.

EDIT: My bad, I didn't realize that they posted the CATALOG 200 as well - which is where AFD is.

And Greatest Hits has been certified as 4x platinum according to that chart entry.

Four million sold in the USA alone.

Not bad for an album that didn't really cost anything.

Awesome stuff. Shows that people are hungry for some raw-raucous deliciousness like only GNR can provide.

I wonder if GNR will ever release a "Best of..." album.

Safe to say the record label recouped any money it has spent on CD plus a ton. For GH albums, its just packaging. U dont have to pay any studio time, minimal advertising............. U figured they grossed 15-20 million easily.

Is that 4 million worldwide or just USA?

RIAA certifications are for US sales only.

Does that mean AFD is selling more copies, or are other artists selling less?

I was in Best Buy last week and they had AFD on sale for $9.99, along with other debut albums for bands.  I don't know if that was a nationwide thing, but that could've helped boost sales.

When Chinese Democracy comes out there will probably be another spike in sales for all seven albums.

WOW, so u figure it has to be close to 10 million worldwide.

No probably not.

Platium in Canada is 100k sales... it isn't consistent with the U.S. And it's much harder to sell cds in other places in the world besides the UK and U.S. Any album #1 in Finland, or Sweden might have moved 10k-20k copies... here in the U.S. 10-20k gets you a charting around 50-75 depending on the week

and yes any RIAA certification is strictly U.S. sales on "moved" copies. It isn't actual sold copies because that is impossible to track.

Like if AFD moves 5,000 copies in a week. THat means that 5k copies of the album went to various stores across the U.S.

that next week maybe 2,000 of those copies actually sell during that week, leaving a decent stock still left in the stores, so maybe they order around 2,500 copies the next week.

That's why most bands now days have a high debut (top 10) and then slip slowly down the charts. Any major debut album gets at least 250,000 copies the first week, then they slip... to usually 100,000 copies and down and down.

The Eagles new cd is selling so well because it debuted high, stayed high and slipped a little and is staying the in the 20s consistently, plus it's a walmart exclusive... so there ya go

their 7x platium.

this is how it works.
