According to 9inchnails.com a poster there named Tim has said Robin isn't coming back to GnR.  I don't know how credible that is so take it for what its worth.

That must mean he's finished, then..... Grin

You have to admit, it's pretty funny that when someone from the band says something people usually say it's untrue and make wild conspiracy theories, but when some guy like Tim on some forum says something people believe it.

I asked him what was his proof that he ain't coming back.  I just thought it was kinda of silly to give a straight answer like that without any concrete evidence.  well shall see what he says.

Now there's somebody on 9inchnails.com saying that there's a guy named gnrjanus on htgth reporting that Robin will be coming back to gnr...

It seems like Axl has his mind set on 3 guitars... but after listening to Abnormal a lot, *I* think they could get by with the two they apparently have....

I've always been a big bucket fan, and nothing against Robin, either.... but       Ron >= (Bucket + Robin)

Insane shredding ability, great melodic writing ability, and a good voice, too!

who knows... it seems strange that someone would leave and not say anything to clarify the situation all this time... maybe he will be back someday.

Amen to that. Though I would like Robin to be there after all he's put into GN'R through the years and b/c he adds a lot to the live show... if worse comes to worse... the fact of the matter is that Bumblefoot is a guitar god who can easily handle all of his solos.... if not substantially improve them. Fortus ain't shabby either. I keep saying it- but I'll say it again... this ain't like '99 when Robin left the first time and all GN'R  had at its disposal was Paul Tobias and some word that Axl was taking guitar lessons. hihi

Didn't Axl say something about the 3 guitarist thing happening by accident?

If I remember correctly the events unfolded like this

Robin left in 1999

Brian May came in the same year and recorded additional parts

Buckethead came in early 2000 and then later that year Robin decided he wanted to come back and at that point it was 3 guitarists

When Ron came in it was kind of a different situation, because they needed someone to play Buckethead's parts so they needed another virtuoso type player.  It was a situation where, nothing to Richard and Robin, but they didn't have anyone in the band who could play some of Buckethead's stuff

Whereas now with Ron and Richard they are fully capable of playing everything in the band's catalogue new and old so if Robin doesn't return they may well go with just two guitarists

I saw Robin last night in Calgary with NIN. He's an amazing guitar player and deserves to be hunted by Trent and Axl. I'd like to see the lot of you get up on stage and do anything remotely close to what he does. Now that would be fun to watch.

I'm hoping that Robin's not out overall, but I bet you're right. If they play the VMAs, I'm really hoping he's there.

I'm no guitar officianado... but it does seem like there are lots of times on stage when 2 guitarists are merely hanging back and playing rhythm on top of each other while the 3rd has the lead. It would seem therefore theoretically possible (especially with guitarists as skilled as Fortus and Thal) that Robin's solos could simply be divided between Fortus and Thal- with one on lead and the other on rhythm depending on the solo. If Axl needs the additional rhythm playing for some reason... virtually any one (although with GN'R- it's sure to be someone good) could be brought in.

however a band/family doesn't go simple  like 1+1+1=3=1?2+1. each 1 is special.

You would think Robin would have offered a reply by now to the Guns N' Robin blurb on gunsnroses.com  Huh

I'd think their 'Until when we begin to put tour plans together, Robin's touring with NIN and we're working with management on our game plans.' should be enough till a new tour. well we all know that robin is not appearing at Olympics but
reportedly Robin is using Richard's les paul....
