Ok--I really don't want to wade through 107 pages...

So...

Robin is touring with NIN, and as far as we know he's still in GN'R.

Can we lock this thing already?

exactly.

and also, whats the point in comparing slash and robin?

GnR Studio albums with slash: 4

Gnr Studio Albums with Robin: 0 (hopefully more to come)

its not fair to compare them at all.

4

 ok

So, just because I know who wrote that, I HAVE TO prefer Slash, right? Roll Eyes

God forbid if I have a different opinion based on new songs and new inputs on old classics.   Tongue

Not my argument

If u are gonna argue my posts at least read them

That one dude said Izzy was responsible for every GNR song that was a hit and I kindly corrected him and his lack of GNR knowledge.

U can LIKE whoever u want to like. If u LIKE Robin better than Slash, that is great, fantastic, All p ower to u, I respect your OPINION on that matter.

Just dont say because someone covers a song they are better than the guy who wrote it. That is ridiculous.
Who said its just because of "covers"? I clearly said it was about their inputs. Example: I prefer Slash's version of Ain't it Fun. Got it now?

Also, amazes me how you keep ignoring the new songs. And please, don't tell me it's because the album is not released yet.

And I really made a mistake, I read your post indeed. It was the same one through several pages.

and also, whats the point in comparing slash and robin?

GnR Studio albums with slash: 4

Gnr Studio Albums with Robin: 0 (hopefully more to come)
Slash's albums outside GNR worth a dime: 0

to be fair, you are putting out a pretty crazy hypothetical and its hard to say how one would react to something like that unless it happens.
tru, I should have said one or any combo of the three.

so lets say 1 of the existing members leaves. 4 out of 8 is 50%. So my question is when do you actually stop skipping along with the band and realize that half the band or more are gone?

Im not sayin we all shouldnt be fans of GNR anymore because the 2002 lineup or the old lineup is non existent. All Im saying is that some people are of the opinion that those lineups were a lot better than the current lineup.

Ill equate it to baseball. Im a die hard Mets fan. I will always be a Mets fan. And as we know the players change over the yrs. But with that being said there will be certain Met teams over the years that will have a significant meaning than some other Met teams. Nothing anyone can do about it but it is what it is.

I blame Axl! Shame on him for setting the bar so high right out of the gate with 2002 lineup.

You're making some decent points.... and in an ideal world.... you'd be absolutely right. BUT at the end of the day... at this point the only thing that's truly important IMHO is that the album finally gets out and when Axl hits the road he's got 7-8 talented live performers up on stage with him to present the back catalog and new material in all its glory. It's a bonus if familiar faces like Finck, Mantia, etc. are along-side when it happens... but frankly not essential. Hate to be blunt as I love many of the new guys too... but at the end of the day beggars can't be choosers. We need this music RELEASED and PERFORMED. 2 things that NEVER can be taken for granted in the crazy world of Axl and GN'R. Perhaps it's unfortunate- but quibbling over the line-up is WAY down the list of priorities at this point.

I used to be like you... obsessing about whether the new band had the same "chemistry" and history together as the old band, etc... and I found that all the personnel changes, etc. just frustrated the hell out of me. One day I woke up... probably read a few of Jarmo's posts.... and said "Fuck it."... it's not worth it. Jarmo's got it right. I'm still a GN'R and Axl fan... and what matters is getting the material out and having great live musicians around to perform it when the time comes. I have faith in Axl when it comes to this stuff... if Finck is gone... he'll find someone else great to step in. He always has. Life as a GN'R fan has been a lot better since this revelation BTW.beer

Might want to watch what you say about the former members section.  It may be where we're discussing Robin Finck any day now.

Thats true, I am into Buckethead but if Axl left I wouldn't be so intrested. Unless they got some wicked singer.

Theres only ever been one band in the world that I know of called Guns N Roses.  Though the players may have changed along the way, how is it possible that certain people here try and break one band down into seperate entities in regards to what members played at what time.  I dunno, makes no sense to me.  Its one band with the origanal key player (the voice) with different musicians along the way, so now it is 3 different bands? Roll Eyes In all reality is it possible that each of us may be more drawn to the band in regard to what timeline we grew up with, great it's still the same band. rant

Yes it is an opinion. But who cares? It's my opinion so that's the only one that counts to me!  Wink

And if you'd have read the thread you'd have realised that I was replying to a post above that said that Slash had released no good material outside of GnR. Well, like I said, I disagree with that as my personal opinion is that Ain't Life Grand is a good album.

And I know this is the wrong thread, but I was replying to another post, I did say "before we move on", and also "finished" indicating end of discussion... and back on topic.

No further questions!  Grin

I agree.

We may from time to time split the band down into '91 Era, '02 Era, '06 Era etc but at the end of the day it is one band. It's not like the band stopped, then did nothing for a few years, then restarted again with totally new members. Then you could argue that it was different bands but in this case the band has evolved from what it was into what it is now.

Look at how many other bands have had different line ups - Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Faith No More, Pearl Jam...

We don't say that these are different bands.

look at it this way,

If they had all the original members of gnr EXCEPT axl in todays world,
they couldnt call themselves gnr , simple as that, No one can replace Axl, he is unique and irreplacable

but Axl is gnr, He has proven that with the many different band incarnations spanning the last 8+ years,
The lineup changes , but the gnr feel remains the same !

On the money, mediocre at best  peace

not to slashs defence,

but look who he has to work with for the past decade

People bring the best out in each other

so having shit musicians around you, you cant expect quality music,

thats Why Axl was significant in slashs guitar writing...

I mean slash came up with scom intro,
but it was Axl that had the foresight and the creativeness to captialize on that and other situations...

Axl steers the ship and as the captain of the ship he makes all the navigation decisions and the ship and the ships fate rests soley
 on his head,
the band are his crew, that help axl get to his destination,
simple as that, always has been like this, and always will be...

which is a good thing

because  it works as its a clear order of direction and/or management

its better then having too many chefs in the kitchen that spoil the broth
