Robin has done this before since joining GnR.  The NIN tour is running from July to early-mid September.  I don't see why Robin would leave GnR with the wheels finally in motion for the album, so most likely this is just something cool for him to do while the business and politics of CD drag on

If the tour is only that long, then that's good for the possibility of him joining GN'R for some activity later this year.

I wish I could share your sense of optimism, though.

Ali

If it were another band I'd be more worried.  However NIN is and always has been a one man show and Robin would never have the opportunity to seriously contribute to songwriting more than a handful of tracks with that band.  At least in Guns he will have his day in the sun as the lead guitarist on one of the most anticipated albums in years, where he wrote and crafted a lot of the music on there.  I can't see him leaving GnR for NIN, doesn't make sense, not artistically, not financially, not unless he was just really unhappy being with GnR and if that were the case he would've left years ago

You make good points.  However, with the history, one has to wonder, yet at the same time hope for the best.

Hopefully, we can get some clarification from someone in the know.

it just seems every time the band takes a step forward they take 2 steps back...the past 2 weeks have been positive with the signing of a top Management team and then the dr pepper thing...

and now finck goes off with NIN..

Has anyone noticed that Robin's site is down with a sign saying "new site soon"?  Has it been that way?

Why shouldn't he tour if he wants to. What he's not supposed to stay musically creative while he waits for the release of CD and subsequent tour?

Well, since Reznor has long been making Chinese Democracy and GnR references on his website, maybe this is a hoax.  Could be as simple as Robin popping into the studio or doing some recording with NIN.  The "press release" isn't on NIN's official site or any other reputable source yet

Its about loyalty

if u are in GUNS N ROSES u dont join other bands and tour the world.

Side projects or solo things are ok cause they are smaller level things.

NIN is a huge thing

u dont go from GNR to NIN

If u want me to take this band seriously as GNR, these guys should be dedicated and committed TO GNR and not going back and forth with major bands.

They are all going crazy on all the NIN forums about this.

Their official you tube page was also updated with his name:

The guy wants to play, I don't see the reason for freaking out?

I'm not saying it's likely.  But I just realized that the "press release" hasn't even been posted on NIN's site.  So what's up with that?  And Reznor has been posting Guns N' Roses and Chinese Democracy related pictures on his site for years now

Really, this sounds like something James Hetfield said about Jason Newsted's side project. Sure you're not confusing GNR with Metallica?

i would imagine Robin is ready for GnR whenever GnR is ready.  In the meantime, I don't see why he can't go out and perform with Trent as long as its ok with Axl and the band.  Its not up to us to decide, and I believe there is a lot of respect and understanding between the members of the band in GnR.

I, for one, understand what you are saying.  But, there's just this fear, this emotional reaction because of what happened in 1999, man.

The fear is unjustified until we hear something official regarding his status in GNR.

I hear ya, but fears are emotional and irrational reactions to situations.  Given the history, it's understandable, though it may ultimately prove to be for naught.

I hope we get some word one way or the other soon.  He's just such a big part of the band to me.

he came back when the time came.   And I believe when GnR's time comes, he will be right there.
