Question for Knowledgable Buckethead Fans

Hello folks.  I am instructing a student at work, and she just happens to be a huge fan of quality guitarists.  She's got many albums of Malmsteen, Satriani, and Vai, and I sent a link to a Buckethead solo on youtube.  She liked it a lot and would like to know what album of Bucket's would be a quality purchase.

Any ideas?  I'll check back later today.  Thanks folks.

Giant Robot, Colma and Electric Tears are my favorite ones....then again, Cuckoo Clocks of Hell is also good, and so is Kaleidoscalp....with 30-odd new releases every year, she should just close her eyes and take a pick of any of them really....she won't be disappointed, unless he's done it in a style she isn't a fan of.

Ha!  I've never seen that interview.  I guess we wouldn't be where we are today without that crazy Bucket.  I'm glad he'll have a part in the album.  The more the merrier!

I've got one cool student! 

She perused Bucket's web-site and decided to go with:  ""Electric Tears" (last copy they had).  It seemed balanced.  The "Cookoo Clock from Hell" was very thrashy, which I like, but seemed over the top and repetetive, without vocals it's hard to listen to straight up non-stop thrash with no breaks. "Chicken Soup" seemed interesting but all the intros sounded alike, so not sure what the whole thing would be, maybe next time.   I also picked up a copy of Bumblefoot's 9.11 CD which got rave reviews and I liked the snippets too."

Any thoughts on her purchases???

go with "colma" first. great mix of fast and slower, melodic stuff...really great....

Electric Tears is a great album bt if she's into Malmsteen and Vai its a bit acoustic isn't it? Colma is a better album than Electric Tears though if she's into the acoustic stuff.

If I was starting out listening to Buckethead stuff I'd want to start with Monsters and Robots, Giant Robot, and The Elephant Mans Alarm Clock. Praxis - Transmutation is also amazing. And you can't go wrong with The Deli Creeps - The Dawn of the Deli Creeps.

The album's with Travis Dickenson are a bit samey but isn't that the idea?

And of course any guitar student can always buy a copy of Chinese Democracy when it comes out to hear both Buckethead and Bumblefoot!

If you like 911 I also suggest checking out Bumblefoots "Normal" cd.

Population Override.  Colma is great.  So is Electric Tears as everyone mentions, but Population Override is the album to get, trust me.

My vote goes to Population Override too.  And she should download some of his live performances - they are available for free at internet archive.

Colma is still my favourite n his most consistent imo
But 2 great ones to hear are Crime Slunk Scene (worth it just for soothsayer) and some young buckethead with From The Coop (loads of diversity n Disembodied-Part 2 is amazing)

Post Office Buddy is on Bucketheads "Giant Robot" album (not the NTT version).
Big Sur Mon is on the "Colma" solo record.
Night of the Slunk is on the "Monsters and Robots" album.

So I'd say if you are looking for 3 must have albums then they are it (although Elephant Man's Alarm Clock is also really good).

Trust me if you have Buckets albums and a CD-R, burn a CD of those songs in that order, it makes for great listening, shows all of Buckets different styles.

If I had to pick my fav Bucket album it would probably be 'Inbred Mountain' or 'Bermuda Triangle' but my fav song is probably 'Scraps' which is one of his earliest pieces, it's beautiful.
