DR PEPPER Extends Free-Drink Offer Due To 'Consumer Demand' - Nov. 24, 2008
Due to "consumer demand," soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper has extended its offer of a free drink to everyone if GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", actually dropped in 2008.
Interested fans have until 6:00 p.m. today (Monday, November 24) to visit DrPepper.com. After registering online, they will receive a coupon redeemable for a 20-oz. Dr Pepper wherever the drink is sold.

Finally got through on the toll-free number, said 'one coupon per household'. Not really free Dr Pepper for everyone now is it?

It seems that they've got some internal confusion on this one. The promotion is "everyone in America except Slash and Buckethead" but online they check your IP for multiple entries (1 per household) and also on the phone. Someone yesterday said that the person they spoke to was sending them coupons for everyone in his family, even his toddler (the website says anyone "13 and over," which would seem to be another inconsistent aspect of their original challenge).

I wonder if band will sell more CD's this weekend than DrP gives away coupons? 'Extended by consumer demand'...I am guessing they came up a little short, since everyone was too busy buying/listening to CD to actually log on and register for junk mail...offer extended to try and build a respectable number to use for marketing.
Wouldn't look good if they had an ad announcing "To celebrate Chinese Democracy we gave away
over a thousand
free soda coupons"...meanwhile "Chidem sells 800k copies on release day..."

I'd assume that it has more to do with their website being unable to handle the load yesterday. I'm sure they don't want the backlash of offering everybody in America a free Dr Pepper, but nobody was able to request a coupon since the website was down.

One free Dr Pepper per household? That is not what they promoted.
And giving two days exposure for the promo on a site with nonsense bandwidth is also not fair play for the residents of the USA.
