Rock List: Readers? Best Drinking Songs

3/17/08, 5:25 pm EST

To honor St. Patrick?s Day, we asked our readers to tell us their favorite drankin? tunes. We went through the picks and came up with the top ten, because $3 will buy you ten songs on any respectable jukebox. Without further pregaming, here are your picks for the Best Drinking Songs:

1. Tom Petty ? ?Free Fallin??
2. Guns N Roses ? ?Paradise City?
3. Billy Joel ? ?Piano Man?
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd ? ?Sweet Home Alabama?
5. Beastie Boys ? ?Fight For Your Right?
6. The Kinks ? ?Lola?
7. Elton John ? ?Tiny Dancer?
8. Journey ? ?Don?t Stop Believin??
9. Bon Jovi ? ?Livin? On a Prayer?
10. Jerry Lee Lewis ? ?What Made Milwaukee Famous?

Wow..another bad RS list.  Don't get me wrong...there are a lot of good songs here.  But "Tiny Dancer"?  I love Elton, but that's no bar song.  And Journey?  C'mon.  For pure sing-a-long appeal, "American Pie" should be on there, and probably "Rock 'n' Roll All Night."

i would think "Nightrain" is more appropriate...

While I personally agree, it's less likely to get sing-a-long from the less serious fans.  Smiley

Huh  Except for #5 - I don't get any of it........who drinks to Tiny Dancer and Don't Stop Believin'?!?

I would think something by Zeppelin or Metallica should be in there.   Johnny Cash makes for good drinking songs, too.

I think Don't Want To Miss A Thing would be the last aerosmith drinking song in there, put in Back In The Saddle or Train Kept A Rollin' (or dude like's like a lady, for the tranny lovers)

Classic rock did a list like this recently, but it was a lot better.

In no order;;

Judas Priest - Livin' After Midnight
Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again
Steppenwold - Born To Be Wild
Kiss - Rock n' Roll All Nite
Guns N' Roses - Nightrain
ZZ Top - Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers
Scorpions - Blackout
Billy Idol - Mony Mony
Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town
Tank - Blood Guts and Beer
The Kingsmen - Louie Louie
Motley Crue - Dr Feelgood
AC/DC - Big Balls  (classic choice lol)
Pogues - Any Song
Van Halen - Panama
Electric Angels - The Drinking Song
Alice Cooper - Public Animal Numer 9
Dead Kennedys - Too Drunk To Fuck
Def Leppard - High N' Dry

I think Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies should be one of the top songs.  Someone already mentioned the Pogues, but Flogging Molly and even Dropkick Murphy's should be added, especially on St. Patrick's Day.

^^that's a killer idea!

i think RS's list sucks.  i don't associate most of those songs with drinking.  the second list is much better.

ok, why do we think journey songs are good drinking songs?

and the only gnr song i would consider a drinking song would be nighttrain.  and where are george thorogood's "i drink alone" and AC/DC's "have a dink in me"Huh

Ok that list seriously sucks!!!!!!!!!! what about:

I Got Loaded - Los Lobos
Red Wine - ub40
I'm Not Drunk, I'm Just Drinking - BB King - I think?
One Bourbon, One Shot, and One Beer - Todd Rungren?
Definitely KISS
Definitely ACDC - big Balls
I would walk 500 miles - don't know
Mony, mony - Billy IDOL
Pogues - any song I agree
Heavy, heavy fuel
Wild Wild Life - Talking Heads
Movin Out is more party than Piano man

The RS list sounds more like when you're crying the blues or mellow.

I could totally go on but I will refrain.

One Bourbon, One Shot, and One Beer - Todd Rungren?

You're probably thinking of George Thorogood and the Destroyers' cover of the John Lee Hooker song. It is a good one, as is JLH's Whiskey and Wimmen'.
