Yesterday was one of the greatest days of football ever!!! I thought the Eagles would just be playing for pride in that game because I thought there was no way the Raiders were going to beat Tampa IN Tampa. And then it happened. And then the Bears lost. An amazing day. For all the horrible luck the Eagles have had this year, the stars aligned perfectly today.

I'm interested in hearing Axl4Prez's take on the upcoming Vikings--Eagles game. You're a Vikes fan, but you live in Philly (or close enought to see their games every week) . . . What do you think happens next Sunday??

I'm a little worried about the Brad Childress factor. He used to be the OC for the Eagles. He might know stuff other teams don't.

Still, though, the Eagles are a better team, and should win that game.

And the Eagles just recently beat the Giants IN NY. Now that they don't have to worry about Plaxico, who used to kill the Eagles, the Eagles can focus on stopping the Giants' running game.

And then there's Carolina, who I still don't think is a great team. They almost blew a huge lead to the Saints today.

But I'm getting way ahead of myself. One game at a time ....

Man, am I exicted though!!!!!!!!!!!!!   peace peace beer beer

i love the NFL playoffs. before the season began, no one thought Atlanta, Carolina, Arizona, Miami, Baltimore, Tennessee and maybe a few others would even make the playoffs. and now two of those teams could easily end up playing in the SB. every year about half the teams are new playoff teams compared to the year before. i love it.

i'm sure somewhere early in this thread there are plenty of predictions, most of which are probably wrong.

AFC playoff teams (in order of seeding)
Patriots
Jaguars
Chargers
Steelers
Colts (wildcard)
Texans (wildcard)

NFC playoff teams
Vikings
Cowboys
Saints
Cardinals
Eagles (wildcard)
Panthers (wildcard)

Superbowl
Colts def. Saints

These were my predictions a day before the season started. I got three right in the AFC and four in the NFC. The Patriots would've made the playoffs and probably would've been the number one seed had Brady not been injured. I was one of the many that thought the Jags would be great this season. The Texans came on strong down the stretch, but it was too little too late.

I did pick the Cards to make it, but I've been picking them to win their division for at least the last three years. I figured the Panthers would be pretty good this season with a healthy Delhomme (remember, he missed pretty much all of last season). The fucking Saints, though, I was way off on them. I thought Brees would be the MVP, and he almost broke Marino's record, but his team just doesn't win enough games. Their great offense is ruined by their defense.

I know a lot of people who didn't think the Giants would even make the playoffs, and once Osi Umenyora went down, I didn't think they stood a chance. Yet they're the number one seed.

Favre will get the Bills and Dolphins Twice, so that will be 4 victories.

I'll give you those, though I do think because its a divisional game and the Jets could have some troublesome spots the bills could squeeze one out.

Thats 4 wins.

They play the titans, the bengals--to me thats two losses. They play the seahawks thats three. A potential tough game against denver depending how cutler plays and if they can get a running game going. I'm gonna say thats a toss up. I say they lose to the pats twice again this year. And they lose to the Chargers. So thats 6 losses.

Lets give them wins against the chiefs and the raiders.

So far thats 6-7 or 7-6, depending on the denver game.

Now lets say the 49ers, the cardinals and the rams are wins.

Thats 9-7, or 10-6, again depending on the denver game. Or they could even falter against any team they are playing because we don't know if that offensive line is going to gel or if thomas jones can get it going and Brett Favre cannot revert to the favre of 2005 and 2006 if the jets have any hopes of play-offs.

Bottom line is the Jets are not an instant play-off team because Brett Favre is playing there.

They finish 9-7 or 8-8 and miss the play-offs

i agree - now we have to go through an entire off season of retirement/play one more year flip flop talk.  As good of a QB as he is, he is such a bore.

As for the playoffs - shame the steelers have such a shitty O-line and a weak run offense.  Their D is so sick.  Baltimore could do some damage.

can't believe we are taking about AFC playoffs without the Pats.

anyone else hear that Brady might miss most, maybe all, of the 2009 season?  Apparently hes having issues with his knee surgery.

Gilee...honestly, on paper, the Eagles match up well against the Vikings.  (especially since Pat Williams is out, broken shoulderblade)

McNabb should have a field day.  If the Eagles snatch an early lead, it could be lights out for Minnesota.  We can't come back from a big early deficit.  That said, with Adrian Peterson in the backfield, anything can happen.

A lot of folks may be incorrectly thinking the 20-19 win over the Giants in Week 17 meant something.  It didn't mean shit.  F'ing David Carr was out there.  The G-Men also sat some linemen.  Hell, it took a 50-yard field goal to win by one.  hihi  My heart says Vikings, but my head says Philly big in this game.

...now to adjust those odds of mine for teams making it to the Super Bowl.

I think all the road teams might win during wild card weekend.  ok

The eagles and falcons are better than the cardinals and vikings imo

The colts and chargers will be a really good game as both teams are coming in very hot

HOLY SHIT!  Shanahan was fired!  He will be hired.  The obviously interested parties would include NYJ, DET, and CLE.  I can't see him going to the mess that is Detroit, no way.

The end of season collapse was not his fault.  He's an excellent coach.  The Jets would be smart to snap him up.

U have got to be shitting me. Fire Mike Shanahan? That is retarded!

U can't blame Mike. He was on his damn 10th running back. No coach could do better than that.

Seriously, they had major injuries everywhere if I'm not mistaken...especially on defense.  I'm thinking Cowher and Schottenheimer aren't thrilled with the news there's a greater supply of quality head coaches out there now...the competition may lower their payday somewhat.

There are three really awesome jobs now

Denver have pieces, Jets also and Cleveland have a lot of talent that for whatever reasons, couldn't put anything together this season.

those teams will be much easier to turn into playoff teams.

I would love to see Bill Parcells opt out of his Miami contract, collect his 9 million and sign with Detroit and see what he can do for that.

At almost 70, u know that challenge would be the be all end all of challenges and Bill would grow his legend insurmountably by turning THEM around.

Shanahan's a great coach and won't have any problem finding another job.  Lots of people say Belichick is arrogant in his ways and thinks he can just plug anyone into a position and win with his schemes.  That's debateable, but if you say that you might have to say the same thing for Shanahan.  He had such a good run with RB's over the years that it got to the point where he thought he could just plug any back behind that offensive line and he'd have a 1,000 yard runner.  Obviously it worked for quite awhile Davis, M. Anderson, Gary, Portis.  But really after Portis they struggled to get a consistent RB over the last few years.  Not that that's the reason the Broncos didn't do better, the defense is the main reason, but the balance on offense just wasn't there these last 2 seasons.

There is no way in hell Jones' ego would allow Shanahan to come in and run things.  No way!
I did hear today Cowher has said no to the Jets...he told the Browns no a couple days ago.

Weekend Predictions: with the spread!
Arizona +2 1/2 over Atlanta
Indy -1 1/2 over San Diego
Miami +3 over Baltimore
Philly -3 over Minnesota  (damn, that hurts to say...my heart says Vikes, but my head says Eagles)

I think Philly are winning the superbowl

Its a team of destiny thing

U tie the bengals.

McNabb is benched against Baltimore

U come into the last week needing a MIRACLE

u get a west coast team like Oakland for fuck's sake beating an East Coast Bucs team. that shit never happens as the west coast squad is playing at 10am and Oakland had nothing to play for.

Then the Bears lose to Houston

They are the Giants from last year, the Steeler team who came in as the last seed and won the superbowl a few years ago.

The NFC is week. The Giants I feel are a bit overrated. Not sold on Carolina at all

Its Philly in the Super Bowl

Hopefully McNabb won't CHOKE again.  we will see.
