Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has set "Pain in the Neck" as the title of his new solo album, tentatively due in the spring.

"I was all ready and set up to track a record when I was offered the KISS reunion," Frehley told The Akron Beacon Journal. "I got back with KISS and that kind of derailed me from 1996 to 2001 and it took me a while to get my wits back.''

Frehley said he is still putting the finishing touches on "Pain in the Neck", including some scheduled six-string contributions from VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash.

Though most of the tunes were written in the past several years, Frehley also looked to his own past for guidance.

"I've been listening to my first solo album with KISS, because everybody says that's their favorite record. I was trying to figure out what made it so special, so I'm trying to incorporate a lot of what that record had for this new CD," he said.

"It has a lot of different aspects and shows different musical sides of me and it's something I'm trying to recapture. I don't know if I can do it but I'm gonna take a shot at it."

He added, "The record to me is secondary to the fact that I needed to come back and let everybody know I'm alive and well. Some of my old band mates kind of dragged my name through the mud a little, so I figured that it was time for me to re-emerge and let everybody know I'm not dead."

Ace has some great songs..Looking forward to him N' Slash jamming together..Wonder if they'll actually be in the studio together improvising..Makkes me wonder when I hear something like Daughtetry, if he actually worked/contributed w/ Slash or if Slash just went in and did a solo.
Check out Ace's 1978 solo album..NY Groove and Rip it Out are classics..Also he has some standout songs from the 80's Words are Not Enough and Rock Soldiers..
Didn't Slash and Ace play together at the VH1 Rock Honors  KISS show. Also I remember Ace and Slash pictured playing together in Metal Edge a few years back..

Also, as far as Ace's solo material goes, ye sthe 78 album is incredible, but Trouble Walkin' is not to be looked past either, it is a great album.

My favorite part of Ace's solo album while with KISS was that his sold the most and that pissed off Gene and Paul inside, i dont' know if they've ever admitted to it but you know it did since Ace was all about having fun and Gene and Paul were in it for the business......and the pussy

rofl i love Ace, coolest mother fucker Alive today headbanger even named my cat after him Smiley

peace

I used to be in a band here in NY, and one of my bandmates...his family knew Ace's family very well. One day, we were jamming Light My Fire by the Doors, and who walks in....but Ace. He was totally cool, brought in his Signature Les Paul...it was brand new, Gibson just sent him this new one. he was proud of it, told me it had AAA flame top, his face on the headstock etc. He proceeded to plug into my cheap Crate Amp, showed me how he stretches his strings (at the 12th fret) and he started wailing.

then, to my amazement, he asked me if i wanted to play it. i still have pics of me playing it. he actually even left the damn room, left me with it!!

well anyway, we were talking later on, and i , of course, was going on and on about GNR and how much i loved Slash.

Well....we told me they jammed together once, and......Slash turned his amp down, b/c, as Ace was implying, he couldnt keep up with Ace. Yea fucking right....sure....i didnt believe it then, still dont. Ace isnt too good....he's ok, and is good on stage....but come on...Slash wouldnt turn down...maybe, if he did, just out of respect....but still, i doubt it....

It is? lol

Im not a big Kiss fan, although I love that song "I was made for loving You"...had a cool disco feel, kinda like OMG's post-chorus, although i hate disco

anyway....that day Ace came in was pretty cool. He was actually there for a BBQ the family was having....i remember he didn't walk too straight, he was really tall, seemed drunk/stoned but i was told thats just how he is. he did say how he hates the idea that he may have influenced kids in the 1970s to try drugs etc.

we were so new as a band at that point, i cant believe we did this...but we gave him our demo, which at the time sucked. we went on to do big and great things in the music industry, although never achieved THE GOAL, but still....the demo we gave him sucked!!! lol i was told he played it at his house a few weeks later at a party he was having....he told us we needed to get a new drummer, b/c in his words, u cant have a so-so drummer. u could have so-so everything else, but not the drummer....drummer needs to slam.

we thought of course he'd take the cd to some important people and we'd get signed....lol.....so little we knew back then. this was about 1999. by 2000, 2001 we were rolling and kicking ass.

but, time went by and it all went up in smoke

W 23, can't believe you never shared this story before.

And Ace was a pretty good player, but Slash has more modern chops than him.  However, those videos from the 70's, ace is smoking.

ace has been playing better than ever lately since he's been sober. I can't wait to see him twice this month.
