Not sure whether he ever posted here, or not, and what user name he may have had.

In any event, Riot:Noise didn't win.  The top five winners were:

Drive A - opening on 5/1
Melotia - 5/8
Wickhead - 5/15/
Moving Picture Show - 5/22
Life After Mary - 5/29

Round up of last nights CF gig courtesy of www.billymorrison.net/weblog

"So now its our turn, and after a hugely stressful afternoon of guestlist/setup/soundcheck/logistics, I felt ready for a nap! But the moment we got up there, I woke up!! We have changed a bunch of songs up now, and have an arsenal of new tunes - we opened with Cheap Trick's Hello There and then straight into Blur's Song Two. Mark McGrath (who is doing every show as our featured guest) came on and blew it all wide open with a killer version of Killing Jokes Eighties. And from there it just got surreal.....Poe singing Led Zep's Good Times Bad Times, Nuno Bettencourt just NAILING Oasis' Rock And Roll Star, Warren De Martini shredding Round And Round, Jerry Cantrell (not scheduled to play, but being part of the Freddy Family, always welcome!) wandering out and killing it on Jailbreak, and of course, my personal highlight (not only of the show but maybe my entire career!) - doing the Sex Pistols EMI with Steve Jones AND Paul Cook!! Lemmy came on to finish the night out and we did Ace Of Spades (which is one of the most violent songs I have ever played!) and Eddie Cochrans Something Else, with Paul Cook and Matt sorum on drums, THREE Bass players (Lemmy, Chris Chaney and Corey Parks from Nashville Pussy!) and me, Navarro and Jonesy on guitars. I Wanna Be Your Dog finished the night in true Camp Freddy fashion....with the Darling Stilettos joining us all onstage and every musician grabbing an instrument and jamming. We got four more of these crazy shows to do, and I strongly advise any fan of rock music not to miss any of them. Each week is different songs and different guests. Next weeks show is gonna BLOW YOUR MIND!!!

Thats all I got for ya - the V-Blog will be up later today, so check back and have a quick look. Until then....adios amigos"

Was there. It wasn't as impressive as they make it sound. A sad picture actually - a bunch of former elderly overweight (save Navarro) "rockstars" in tights who still think they have it. And a singer who was in what I call a pop boys band didn't really help. Navarro was playing more low profile solos and rythm. I guess, to let his guest guitarists "shine". The whole show 1hr15min.
The only interesting thing - more Chelsea fans than Man U in the building.....Go Blues!
The following Dizzy show with the Starfuckers at the catclub topped it by miles!

Rock Heavyweights Jam Out At The Roxy

May 02, 2008, 1:30 PM ET
Wes Orshoski, L.A.

A cast of rock heavyweights crammed the Roxy stage in Hollywood Thursday night (May 1) for a jam session that found the likes of Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath and Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver, Guns N' Roses) on stage with the likes of Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols and Alice In Chains' Jerry Cantrell.

All came together for the first of five Thursday-night gigs in May featuring Navarro and Sorum's occasional side project, Camp Freddy, which also features guitarist/vocalist Billy Morrison, bassist Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction, Alanis Morissette) and singers McGrath and Donovan Leitch, son of folk singer Donovan.

The Roxy is known for holding occasional jam sessions with top-shelf names, and this collective opened its Roxy stand by wowing the crowd with covers of songs by Thin Lizzy ("Jailbreak"), Oasis ("Rock and Roll Star"), Killing Joke ("Eighties"), Blur ("Song 2") and David Bowie ("Suffragette City").

"I don't know what you think of me, because I've done some pretty douche-y things in my life. But that's okay, because right now I'm gonna do the greatest thing in my life," McGrath said in introducing Jones and Cook for a rendition of the Pistols' "EMI," featuring Sorum on backing vocals. "Live it, love it, blog about it," he added before taking lead vocals.

Motorhead's Kilmister got the biggest roar of the night, joining the ensemble for his band's "Ace of Spades," which found the likes of Extreme/Satellite Party's Nuno Bettencourt bouncing in the audience. Billy Duffy of the Cult and Sean Kinney of Alice In Chains also watched in approval.

Ex-Ratt guitarist Warren DiMartini joined up for "Suffragette City" and a take on his band's "Round on Round," which provoked another roar when he and Navarro synched up on the track's dueling guitar solo. Guitarist Cantrell, a last-minute addition, took the stage for "Jailbreak," and singer-songwriter Poe led the band through Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times."

The gig at times found multiple bassists (Kilmister, Chaney and Corey Parks, formerly of Nashville Pussy), multiple drummers (Sorum, Cook, Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction) and multiple guitarists (Bettencourt, Jones, Navarro, Morisson) all playing together, as they did on the closer: the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog."

All-star cover band Camp Freddy were joined on-stage by members of the Sex Pistols, Motorhead, Jane?s Addiction and Alice In Chains for their show at the Roxy in Los Angeles last night (May 1) that kicked off their month-long residency at the legendary Sunset Strip club.

The band, which features Billy Morrison (The Cult), Dave Navarro (Jane?s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Matt Sorum (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver), Donovan Leitch (son of singer Donovan), and Chris Chaney (Jane?s Addiction), performed cover songs by their guest performers as well as Blur, Led Zeppelin and Oasis.

?We?re going to bring on half of the Sex Pistols for their song ?EMI? ? now I can die and go to heaven,? Morrison said when the legendary punk band?s guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook took the stage.

?What can we do to top that?? Morrison asked at the end of the Sex Pistols number before introducing Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister who sang his band?s hit ?Ace Of Spades?.

The evening?s guest parade also included Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray, Steven Perkins of Jane?s Addiction and Warren DeMartini of Ratt.

For their grand finale, the band brought on nearly all their guests as well as scantily clad dancing women for a cover of The Stooges? ?I Wanna Be Your Dog?.

They played:

Cheap Trick- ?Hello Ladies and Gentleman?
Blur-?Song 2′
Killing Joke-?Eighties? w/Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray)
Oasis-?Rock ?n? Roll Star? w/Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme)
Led Zeppelin-?Good Times Bad Times? with Poe, Bettencourt
Adam Ant-?Ant Music? w/Steven Perkins (Jane?s Addiction)

A little promo for tomorrow night Freddy gig at the Roxy courtesy of www.billymorrison.net/weblog

The days are moving pretty quickly right now and the calm before the storm of Week Number Two of The Residency is slowly fading. The next Camp Freddy show at The Roxy is almost upon us and its shaping up to be another epic. As we are keeping it all a surprise until the night of the show, I can only tell you that you REALLy should treat yourself to a $20 ticket this thursday!! I wouldn't miss it for the world, if I were you!! HAHA!! Its so much fun doing all this - I would love to do the same thing on the other coast. Dunno if the guys would be into it, but its been so much fun putting it all together and doing the show last week. Maybe if the logistics were right, who knows. Maybe do one in London. Why not!! I'm just thinking out loud - but I would be down. Either way, I am happy and humble that we get to do these shows. Thanks to everyone who is involved, from the band and guests to the crew and the club. Everyone is going above and beyond to put some pretty awesome rock n roll together.

I guess I can kind of tell that you were there, by accident....I think it's a show that you either get or you don't.  I would love to see a Camp Freddy show.  Unfortunately, you almost have to live in the LA area, to see one (or have a lot of money to throw away to go there and see one).

I probably wouldn't get the Dizzy show....

Camp Freddy isn't about a bunch of elderly overweight former rock stars - it's about a bunch of musicians who get together and jam for the fuck and the fun of it, I think to kind of get away from the "rock star" status, and maybe make fun of themselves, somewhere in the process.  The great thing is, you never know who might be there at any given show.  I don't think it's meant to be impressive - just fun.  It's not meant to be a "serious" thing.  It started out as a private jam session, and grew a little bit bigger.  They have done shows to raise money, for charity, as well.

More from Billy Morrison courtesy of www.billymorrison.net/weblog

I haven't felt this tired in a while! Four hours sleep after one of the craziest shows I have ever seen!! And I was right there in the middle of it all, playing my ass off with a bunch of musicians that I respect and love. Last nights Roxy Show (Week 2 of 5) was possibly one of the greatest 'vibe' gigs I have ever played. In that tiny club, on that small stage, we were joined by Chester Bennington, Slash, Duff, Tommy Lee, Billy Duffy, Jerry Cantrell, McQueen, Steve Jones and Paul Cook. And they were ALL on the stage at the same time for our traditional finale - Iggy Pop's I Wanna Be Your Dog!! Honestly, it was SO much fun for me, and from the noise the sold out Roxy was making, it was a lot of fun for everyone!! The full set will be over at Camp Freddy's site tomorrow (I dont have time today, cos its the MAP Awards) and I did get a ton of amazing video - so another 'clip/highlight' blog from me at the weekend as well. Just know that these Camp Freddy shows are very special - that everyone turning up, jamming and being a part of the family just want to play great music and have a fun night of loud rock and roll. We thank them all

Live Review
Camp Freddy - The Roxy, Hollywood

Fri, 09 May 2008

Coolest summer camp ever

Hollywood's notorious for cover bands. In fact, L.A.'s premier cover band, Metal Skool, recently renamed Steel Panthers, have become the hottest Monday night attraction on the Sunset Strip. They sell out the Key Club almost every week with a set that spans everything '80s, from Journey to Poison. It's largely throwback shlock, but it's all good, because that's what the tourists want. Out-of-towners just love to get a slice of that legendary, RAWK decadence, and Metal Skool satisfies that hunger. Meanwhile, there's something for the natives. You know, the "Initiated," Hollywood elite that don't attend shows, unless a silk, sticky, backstage pass is waiting for them at the will-call window. All-star cover band Camp Freddy will no doubt impress them, but make no mistake, Camp Freddy's show is fun for everyone. How can you go wrong with rock titans Dave Navarro [Jane's Addiction, Panic Channel, Red Hot Chili Peppers] and Matt Sorum [Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver] hashing out classics? That's exactly what they did last night at The Roxy, during the second of five Thursday residency shows this month.

With every aspect of L.A. life, it's all about who you know, and Camp Freddy's members have famous Blackberry contacts to spare. Even though the core band of Donovan Leitch, Chris Chaney [Jane's Addiction], Billy Morrison [The Cult], Navarro and Sorum is undeniably slamming, the guests make Camp Freddy's shows special. Last night delivered once-in-a-lifetime collaborations that made even the backstage glitterati flash ZOOM!-whitened smiles. In the house were Slash, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols, Mr. Motley Crue Tommy Lee and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. The residency shows are all MC'ed by Mark Mcgrath of Sugar Ray and Access Hollywood fame. However, McGrath can't resist grabbing the mic and kicking out the jams alongside his pals. With high profile guest appearances and an incredible core band, Camp Freddy sent a shockwave down Sunset. It's the most "rock n' roll" covers show you can see. Even the fire marshals at the packed club couldn't take their eyes off the stage. A few even snapped some camera phone shots to bring back to the big red engine. Of course, they kept things in check, minus Slash paying zero heed to the "No Smoking" policy. Thankfully, some things never change.

Camp Freddy's really just a good old fashion rock show, showcasing more than a few songs everyone knows. The Cult's "Lil Devil" punched with a raw, jagged groove. McGrath took the mic and blazed through the song, emanating a classic, cock rock braggadocio. Meanwhile, Navarro shredded out the lead with blues sensibility and metal technicality. The best surprise came when Tommy Lee took over a drum kit facing Sorum and the two launched into a full-on drum duel at the end of the song. Lee flipped sticks and hit hard, facing off with Sorum's calculated, precise pummeling. Then Slash hit the stage and helped bring the house down. When the top hat-donning legend walked out, Navarro smirked. "Can someone please get Slash a guitar? Is that hard?" Appetite for Destruction classic "It's So Easy" brought everyone back to the gutter days. Duff McKagan belted out the bass line while doing a throaty and worthy Axl rendition. Slash and Navarro jammed together, volleying lead lines in a completely kinetic fashion that sparked energy from the stage. Both dominated their fret boards, bending notes and ripping through solos.

The three-song salvo that followed "It's So Easy" proved to be the night's most explosive. Linkin Park's Chester Bennington took the mic for Led Zeppelin's "Good Times, Bad Times." His signature wail brought the song into the 21st century, bridging the gap between now and then. Slash and Navarro bowed at the altar of Jimmy Page, playing each line with reverence. A raw and vibrant "Highway to Hell" followed, as Chester did his most faithful Bon Scott impression and Sorum bashed away at the timeless rhythm. Of course, our two favorite guitarists kept axeing out, not missing a beat or chance to blaze a riff. After the AC/DC homage, Chester asked, "You want to hear some fucking Guns N' Roses?" The crowd erupted, and the band launched into "Paradise City." The audience clapped in unison as Slash ripped through the opening with the same fire he had in the '80s.

At one point, Chester posed a question that resonated. "Do you have any idea what you're witnessing on this fucking stage tonight?" Everyone in attendance certainly did, and that's why they walked away all smiles. Whether they had passes or not, everyone got a little closer to the Strip's legend last night.
