Thinking about Metallica working on their next album with no other than Rick Rubin, their album could turn out to be huge (and actually pretty good) and if CD is released at the same time, Guns would have huge competition in the rock department. At the moment, there is no rock album to conquer CD but that could look different in a few months.

But then again, a tour with Metallica could help both GN'R and Metallica. What do you think? Do they have to hurry? Should they wait or should they let it pass? Personally, I think they should release it at the same time cause both albums would benefit from the release of the other, like "hey decent rock music is back" and regardless how much I love GN'R, I think the next Metallica record is gonna be a good one again and it will sell like sliced bread. And I hope the same for CD.

What competition? You mean if Metallica releases their album early, I might choose not to buy CD when it comes out?
hihi

Your post makes no sense.

Chinese Democracy will destroy any album by Metallica. Im not sayin that as a fanboy either but Hetfield cant hold Axl's balls.

Metallica right now need to prove themselves. Their last album did not impress musically and there is still some (unnecessary) personal backlash based on the whole counselling thing and how that has softened them up or whatever - this is based on fan feedback I've seen on forums, etc. not personal opinion so don't criticize me.

Guns N Roses - On the whole, most people still think the album is never going to come out, so there are no real expectations. They might have heard the new songs live but they probably haven't paid attention to it since or followed it up further.

I don't think there is any real competition between them. Both bands share fans, so they would be just as eager for a new Metallica album as for a new GNR album, even if it is just out of interest in either case, if that makes sense

what is decent rock music anyway.

so for you decent rock music is heavy metal ?
well...i always prefered a good Supergrass than a Motley Crue, personaly.

about metallica, i liked load & reload, the last album was shit except one track.
they need to say fuck you to their hardcore fans who wants the same music again and again to move on.

I definitely don't see any chance of the two touring together again. I think most of the personal problems between the 2 bands were between Hetfield and Axl and I doubt either one of them feel like going down that road again. I agree with a previous post that the expectations are extremely different for the two bands however I don't see Metallicas new album being competition for CD at all for a million reasons but especially because I just don't think Metallica has it anymore. They lost that drive almost 20 years ago. And I say this as someone who grew up a great fan of the band but if you look at the output of original material since the 90's it shows they're still capable of writing a good song-once in a while/every now and then. For every "No Leaf Clover" or "Hero Of The Day" they have written over the past 15 years they have written 10 "bad seeds", "cures", and "Frantics". Based solely off of the little we have heard and know of from apparently Axl's 4 albums worth of material he's stockpiled, being able to still write a good tune is the last of Axl's problems.

But here's an interesting thought...would Metallica have been looked at or back on with much more adulation by most people had they not released any new material in the past 16 1/2 years like GnR?

I wouldn't call GN'R or post-Justice Metallica metal. Classic Rock with an edge mabye, but not metal.

And yes I do think both bands make decent rock music, with the exception of most of the ladder Mettalica output.

But that's a long time ago and isn't Lars a huge GN'R fan?

True. Axl obviously writes the better songs. But today, Metallica have the larger audience. They have the benefit of not having been out of sight for so long as Axl. They are a household legend to the mainstream audience, while Axl becomes more of an urban legend to most people.

With the exception of the Justice and the black album, their music is not half as memorable as most of GN'R stuff. They have no SCOM but then again they did not make that kind of music when they were still good. GN'R were heavy AND appealing to pop audiences at the same time, Metallica were either one or the other. I think Metallica would be remembered though and could make a great comeback had they been gone for a while. Today they are as housewife-friendly as Bon Jovi while GN'R still has some kind of underground vibe.

I wanted to point out one thing basically, Rick Rubin is one hell of a producer. He can make basically anyone sound fantastic. Johnny Cash's comeback, the first Audioslave record, the Chili Peppers...some of the best and most memorable rock stuff in the last ten years was produced by him. He even made Justin Timberlake listenable wich I believed was impossible. So if he works with Metallica I think that could be very intresting.

no, guns are not metal, to me it's a rock n'roll band, with metal and punk influences (and others).
metallica, hmm, their name talk by itself no ?

talking about a huge competition, don't need to mention metallica, there's a lot of famous rock n'roll band these days
like the white stripes, the strokes, franz ferdinand, the killers, muse, foo fighters, the hives, arctic monkeys, yeah yeah yeahs,
bloc party, modest mouse, the vines, queens of the stone age, SOAD, and a lot more.

so of course you may not enjoy them, but you can't deny their existance.

That's some nice music but on a festival these bands are all dust in the wind when Axl enters the stage. Metallica is quite another league, they can keep up, maybe not in song quality but in stage presence and audience attention.

Yeah Lars is a big GnR fan. And as far as I have ever heard him and GnR got along great. But there was a lot of mudslinging between Hetfield and Axl. Hetfield made fun of Axl's list from the tour on metallicas home video and Axl came out to the press and called James a racist if I remember right. And even in the behind the music Metallica still bashed Axl. I just don't see either side ever wanting to tour together again. And I think the audience size is probably pretty close. There was an Awful lot of people who went to go see GnR the past couple years.

Axl called James a racist? That's like Sabbath kicking Ozzy out for being a Junkie.

Chinese Democracy will destroy any album by Metallica. Im not sayin that as a fanboy either but Hetfield cant hold Axl's balls.
Nobody in Metallica can hold a candle to their GN'R equivalent.

Lets dont get too carried away, they do have a guy named Lars Ulrich who is undeniably one of the greatest drummers ever to pick up sticks.
