its like this though

Brain is far superior technically and really acing and keeping in time with the drum beat and the rythm of a song

on the other hand, he doesnt look like he appreciates being their as much as ferrer,

but you can hear on  the Budokan Concert Flac, that Tommy said "Hey franks having a few timing issues, lets..."

So it comes down to choice

energetic performance , that a drummer really gets into the show,

or a Techinically far superior drummer

imo, I prefer brain ..

Maybe he characteristically doesn't show it much but in a serious interview he said he loved being in GNR and with gnr he'd not be a hired gun.

It doesn't say he's "planning" to get back. It says he's "trying." There's a big difference there. But I'm sure we're about to have 16 pages of speculation on this topic anyway.

Yea, his putting it as 'trying to get back with the axl' is rather odd. But it's brain.....

when and where did brain say that he loved being in gnr and he'd not be a hired gun? not that i'm questioning this, i just want to read that interview...

I have to be serious, I never knew he left. Nothing was ever made official.

They suck without Brain? I don't know how anybody really can tell the difference. They just sounded kick ass to me, no matter who was on the drums.

officially he was never out of the band. just pausing. but people kept on speculating...

i always had the feeling that he'd be back for the band, when he was needed in the studio, for videos and for live gigs that would feature more new songs from cd (some of them brain co-wrote)...

I hope he does come back, but it really doesn't matter at this point. Objective # 1 for me is absolutely the release of this album ( which I hope he's on)
and not what the latest incarnation/starting lineup is going to be present if they decide to tour again without a release date.

Great news if true. Frank has been a solid substitute... and no reason why he still can't be a touring member of the band when needed, etc... BUT Brain has been a part of all this since 2000 and he's evidently a very BIG part of the Chinese Democracy tracks. At the end of the day, he's a supremely talented drummer... and he's been there for all the up's and down's of new GN'R... which gives him (along with Dizzy, Tommy Robin and Chris) a little extra credibility as a Gunner IMHO... one of the "core" guys if you will...

what makes frank special is that he has lots of stage presence and that he makes the live guitar solos (the ones between the songs) cooler, when he joins and hits some nice grooves. the bluesy jam with robin was something i really enjoyed... i also liked what he did on irs durig the bumble solo. but brains drumming is more spectacular, i have to admit. he is tight like a machine and has a real heavy, modern feel. but not as straight and "dead"-sounding as matt sorum, who is still stuck in the 80's.

Unlike the press statement issued after Buckethead's departure, Brain's departure was never implied as a definite goodbye, they just stressed he was taking a break/hiatus from the band, like Beta stated in that interview recently. He might not ever come back to touring with GNR live, but he has left his mark on the band - assuming of course his drum tracks are still all intact on the eventual album/s.

Frank is a great drummer, but Brain is much more technical and plays with more power.
