« on: February 04, 2008, 04:13:44 PM »

The Pulse of Radio reports that ASHES DIVIDE, the new project fronted by A PERFECT CIRCLE guitarist Billy Howerdel, has launched its own YouTube channel at this location. An initial group of interviews between Howerdel and MTV personality Matt Pinfield has been posted at the site. In the exchanges, Howerdel discusses his musical upbringing, recording with A PERFECT CIRCLE, the assembly of the ASHES DIVIDE touring band and the inspiration behind some of the project's songs.

One little-known fact about Howerdel is that before forming A PERFECT CIRCLE with TOOL singer Maynard James Keenan in 2000, he spent several years working on the still-unreleased GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy". Howerdel told The Pulse of Radio what he contributed to the record. "I came in there initially to program some guitar sounds, and then wound up hitting it off with Axl (Rose, GUNS frontman), and then my job kind of migrated into the computer guy. I don't know what you would call me exactly. I kind of was there all night with Axl as he would work. The band came in during the day with a producer and would work most of the day, and then I would come in ten o'clock at night, say goodbye to those guys, Axl would show up later on, and then we'd do our thing all night and then do it the next day."

ASHES DIVIDE's debut album, "Keep Telling Myself It's All Right", is due out on April 8. The first single is called "The Stone". Howerdel sings and plays guitar, bass and keyboard on the album, which also features A PERFECT CIRCLE's Josh Freese on drums and Maynard James Keenan's 11-year-old son Devo on cello.

ASHES DIVIDE has yet to announce tour plans or a live lineup.

Hey!, I had no idea that their working relationship was so close. Well there you go.

The archives must, surely, be packed to the rafters. Forget Chinese Democracy!, it's the deluxe four disc edition down the line that I'm looking forward to most!

haha wow can you imagine like 10-20 years after it actually gets released when they re-release it and put like the outtakes or other versions of the songs on there like they do know with re releases, that would be a box set in it self

I'd pay twelve times the asking price alone for just a copy of the album with Buckethead playing his guitar parts himself.........

I agree with Jim. I know its nothing short of ridiculous to start thinking about anything else that may be coming down the line when the first album's still in negotiations, but there should most definitely be a box set chronicling the process of the album, the different versions of band lineups, song recordings, outtakes etc.

wow this really highlights the vast amount time the band has sunk into this album... it's unprecedented... unless anyone can think of another band/musician who has spent this much time on one album.

Boston took something like ten years from their first album till the follow up came out.

Hell wasn't the first APC album recorded on Guns studio time and dim? I seem to recall hearing and reading that.

no, but APC kind of formed as result of Howerdel having the GNR gig.

I remember Maynard said in a interview, that Axl was not happy when Maynard formed APC with Billy. Dont know if its true, or just Maynie-showoff..
But anyway. APC is one of the best and important addition to the music industri the last 10 years..

Brian Wilson started working on Smile with the Beach Boys in 1966......Finally completed and released it with his new touring band in 2004.

Yeah but Brian Wilson was a fucking loon!! Plus he didn't spend all of those years working on Smile, he did other things in between.  Like go to mental hospitals, etc.  Not the best person to compare Axl with, well if you wanna make Axl look good anyways!
