Welcome Back To The Jungle

« on: January 30, 2008, 11:46:57 AM »

Hey all it's me again with yet another question. I play guitar (still a novice but rapidly improving) and sing fairly well. My girlfriend really wants to hear me sing, has asked me a few times, but I am super shy about it for some reason and don't do it in front of people because I get too nervous.

She had to go out of town for a couple weeks and is pretty bummed about, so I figured I'd finally just man up and do it. I want to record a video of me singing and playing a guitar on a song for her, since I figure it will pick her up.

I just don't really know what song to pick. I would obviously want something in a romantic vein, but it is so hard to find a song that can accurately portray that kind of feeling without getting really over the top and cheesy. It would also need to work well with just one guitar and no other instruments, and be somewhat easy to play.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. I have a few choices but figured the musical tastes here would vary and give some more options.

Thanks.

Wonderwall by Oasis and Moonlight Mile by The Rolling Stones are two I thought of.

They're not particularly depressing as far as the lyrics go, which I guess is a plus.

I think she'd be very impressed if you could pull off an acoustic version of "Do You Wanna Funk With Me."

Patience

Plus it's fairly easy to play on guitar (except the solo).

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do. It wasn't a glove, believe me.

A good song is "When I'm With You," by The Why Store.  Hell, she'll probably think you wrote it, as it wasn't a hit, and they haven't been national for a long time.

If she's out of town for a while, I think something that might help would be "You belong to me". It's been recorded many times by various artists, so it's not tied to a certain interpretation. I personally like Jason Wade's version.
