TMZ has learned that Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. He was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film "The Dark Knight."

Also on perezhilton.com it is stated that it is believed that he died of a drug overdose, R.I.P.

I don't see it on CNN.  Did you personally find him Butters?  This is weird.  He's a huge star and it's not on CNN or Yahoo???  Damn, I hope this isn't true.  I hate seeing young people die.  Sad

this really sucks, he looked like he was gonna act the joker part awesome.

heroes die young.

kinda reminds me of brandon lee, one of his finest pieces of acting was in the crow and he died during it also.

At the risk of sounding like an ass (like usual for me)...the thing that pisses me off about this type of thing is the waste of it all.  It's such a selfish act.  If you're gonna lose it, I mean really go off the deep end, give all your money to charity.  Go meet some people with real problems and try and put things into perspective.  There are kids with cancer in the world...there are people who really need help out there...and then there's the 2 year old mentioned earlier who needs him most of all.  Unfortunately not everybody has the ability to think beyond their self.  If something's not working for you, fame, your job, whatever, get out!  (not out of this world by taking your life).  I sure hope this was an accident...unfortunately, to off yourself with a ton of pills would probably mean it was intentional.  If he had a 2 year old, what a scumbag...that's even worse.    Angry

PS  Mrlee, I hope you are right.  I hope this was an accident.  That would be tragic, but sadly understandable.  If it's suicide via tons o' pills.......I won't say what I'm thinking, cause it aint very nice.  Lips Sealed

Are u trying to make us say he took method acting too far and became as nuts as the joker and had to slowly kill himself to get out of the role ?

Or is is just a lame excuse for a junkie ?

( and it's coming from someone who had to take a glass of wisky coming off stage every night)
