I'm pulling for tampa. It would be great to see a first time winner. I think it would be a great story for the league.

Congrats to Tampa, although I know they don't have any TRUE fans on this board.

If you were a betting man, you would have won a lot of cash.

i'm really excited about this World Series and the fact that a Philadelphia sports team has an opportunity to break the curse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_Billy_Penn

the interesting thing about the curse is this....

"In 2005, construction started on Philadelphia's current tallest edifice, the Comcast Center office building, located two blocks west of City Hall and was completed in 2008. Coincidentally, the building's main tenant, Comcast-Spectacor, owns two of the city's sports franchises, the Flyers and 76ers.

On June 18, 2007, ironworkers from Local Union 401 helped raise the final beam in the construction of the Comcast Center at 17th Street and John F. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Philadelphia, which will be the tallest building in the city at 57 stories. In an attempt to end the curse, workers John Joyce and Dan Ginion attached a small figurine of Billy Penn to the beam, along with an American flag and a small tree."

The national league is sub par... I'd be more willing to lay a grand down on a Tampa sweep.

Tampa is the safer bet....

they play in a tough division.
in a more talented league.
they have better starting pitching.
they avoided a long break.
and they have home field advantage.

I'm still torn on who to pull for here.  With Tampa beating my Sox, you could go either way, wishing for them to get beat down, or wishing for them to win so you can say you lost to the best team.  And normally I'd pull for the AL, minus the Yankees of course.  But I honestly would rather see the city of Philadelphia and its fans be rewarded than Tampa's all of a sudden fans.  If they were to get off to a slow start next year the ballpark would be empty once again, there's no loyalty there outside of Dickie V and Brian Knobbs.  So I think I'm going for the Phillies at this point.  Though I'm predicting Rays in 7.

all i can say is i'm in a state of shock. i don't know how to feel. i only know how to handle disappointment.

getting the early lead was huge. i was most worried about the rust, and i think that took alot of pressure off the team. they seem to be in a great mental state right now.

it's only 1 game of what could be a long series. but the pressure is really on TB tonight. Myers is a bit of a wild card for the phils, but we're kinda playing with house money tonight.

i can't believe game 2 starts in 9 hours. my heart can't take much more.

Go Phils!

some other random thoughts....

October 22, 2008 was an unbelievable day. A Philadelphia sports team took the lead in a world championship series, GnR released a long-awaited single, AND officially announced the release date for CD. there are some major cosmic forces at play here.  hihi

no team that plays in a shit-hole dome, has bandwagon fans, hands out cowbells, and has the backstreet boys sing the national anthem deserves to win a championship.

Cole Hamels has emerged as the young phillie making a name for himself as Mr. October. He's been so clutch and his stats are unreal. He'll have an opportunity in game 5 to become the only SP in history to record 5 wins in games he started. here's a good article that puts it in perspective....

sandman just convinced me.  Great overview of the Tampa team.  I have no problem with the players or coaches, but the bandwagon fans, drab stadium, and ridiculous cowbells.  That's it, Go Phils!

Tampa doesn't have any real fans anyway, so I'm sure you're plenty welcome on the bandwagon.

Oh gawsh, the cowbells remind me of the old Sacramento Kings teams from earlier in the decade.

Is it wrong for me to wish that a flaming hot meteor would just crash into The Trop and take out both teams?

I did not get any enjoyment from that game.  This is one of the most disappointing World Series I have ever witnessed.

Chicago vs Houston was like a godsend compared to this crap!

I hear you.  I've watched like 2 innings so far.  Maybe if I wasn't busy rocking out to Chinese Democracy I would've watched more, but priorities.  I actually like the Tampa team, but I can't stand their "fans" with the cowbells and the blue mohawks.  Give me a break.  And that god awful stadium with the catwalks.  I still think they're gonna win though.  They've got pitching advantages in the next 2 games so the Phils better home their home crowd can couteract that.
