This is kind of off topic.

But please, to everyone, list all of those great bands but please, please refrain from including TOOL

And who would you include?

Crazy Lixx? Bango Tango? Crash Diet? hihi

They are one of the most boring bands ive ever heard

Oh yeah, when you've got inarguably one of the greatest drummers of all time pounding the skins for you, your music is guarenteed to be "boring" Roll Eyes

it drives me mad hearing people rave on about them all the time....

Maybe if you gave one of their albums an honest listen, you'd perhaps see why critics and fans alike continue to praise Tool..

(sorry im stressed and there name bugs the shit out of me)
..

A band name "bugs the shit out of you" Huh

Bizarre.

BANDS from the 80's who are huge now

Prince isnt a band he is a solo artist same with Springsteen

Bon Jovi are the third biggest band to come out of the 80's if u want to factor in album sells, and concerts only trailing U2 and Metallica.

and u guys want to bash Bon jovi for changing their sound? It hasn't changed much and u have to "Evolve"

U dont think CD is gonna be vastly different than Appetite or the Illusions?  Fuck pantera were a hair band when they started.

Bands have to change and evolve. They have done a great job of aging gracefully.

A band is composed of artists..

So, your basically saying Prince and Springsteen's success in the 80's can't compare to Bon Jovi because their music isn't recognized as a "band" effort?

 Huh

That's not really logical.

Well i was on about the list of bands you guys all listed. But of course lets bring the assumed bands i "only" like into the equation.  Roll Eyes

However, (while a ridiculous comparison due to genre difference) i would say i find Bang Tangos and CRASHDIETS music far more interesting to listen to than TOOL, since i dont fall asleep to there songs.
While im not a huge Bang Tango fan, id rather hear the basslines in their material (when they had kyle on bass) then TOOLs bassist.

That doesn't mean their success should be any less recognized than a band's success.

Oh, and the E Street Band weren't/aren't a band?

What about Prince's supporting bands?

We are talking BANDS!!!!!!!!!

If I said 80's artists then sure Id include Springsteen,Prince, Madonna and everyone else.

We are talking bands of the rock persuasion

Prince isnt a group of artists seeing as he wrote and recorded almost every album himself playing and writing everything.

His bands were "touring" bands much like NIN's who really shouldn't be considered a band either.

Still to think NIN are anywhere near as popular as BJ is ridiculous.

Basically.

I think its down to taste and labelling.

Price is an amazing multi talented artists and i love SOME of his albums, like i love SOME of Bon Jovis albums.

Both artists explore different styles, both artists are popular and well respected.

Whilst Princes popularity probably would be bigger if it wasnt for the label troubles and name changes he had in the 1990s.

The bands have styles on different albums which different groups of people like, keeping them popular with (to a degree) with old fans and generating new ones. They are both established names and will be able to tour off there old hits alone, so new released only furthers there continued popularity and concert ticket sales.

......
Ive forgot the point i was going to make from all of that. Thank spending 6 hours non stop on an essay all day, combined with stress and tiredness. But at least theres a random rambling which someone may be able to pick up my point out of above.

So, he's released material as a solo artist, and he's released material with the E Street Band, of which he's an integral part.

Therefore, it's entirely fair to compare his success to Bon Jovi's since he has been part of a band, and continues to be part of a band.

They were still active in the 80's, and enjoyed some of their biggest success in the 80's.

People often refer to Gn'R as a 90's band, yet they started in the 80's.

Who cares?

They were huge in both eras.

Just like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have been very successful in multiple eras.

Do some research.

This coming from somone who critiques the abilities of Gn'R based on a bunch of YouTube clips.. Roll Eyes

Thank You!

Who cares?

That doesn't change the fact that he was part of a band, and is still part of a band.

Instead of honestly compare the artists I suggested, you've decided to split hairs.

U gotta see where I am coming from on shit like this.

Im tired of Jimi Hendrix being the greatest guitarist just because its been repeated

I hate when people overrate history and make it impossible to surpass.

Take the new "Batman" movie for instance.

U already hear people saying how "There is no way Heath Ledger's joker can be better than Jack Nicholson

How the fuck can people say this when they havent even seen the god damn movie?

U know what Im sayin? Just drives me crazy how things are put on a pedestal and never change regardless.

I've listened to Zeppelin, I tried my absolute hardest to like them and I just think they are extremely overrated. Same with Hendrix. he is great but I dont think he is the best ever.

So what makes them the greatest?  So if something is complex and abstract its automatically great? thats bullshit cause it could be complete jibberish.

some of the greatest melodies in the history of music from Bach to Mozart to Beethoven are simple little melodies. I don't think u have to sing about super Deep weird subjects to be a great band.

Bon jovi write songs the listener can relate and appreciate. They tell stories of people's lives and are very uplifting.

I'll take that over some of the Led Zeppelin nonsense people make out to be the most amazing shit ever just to try to appear to be cool or smart.

U ask people who have never even listened to someone if they are good and they will say "hell yeah" they are the best without even knowing a song. guess whY? Cause they've heard it their whole fuckin life without questioning it.

Well I am questioning it cause I dont hear what everyone else hears.
