What?s his story with Queens? I mean, he?s in then he?s out, his participation in the new album is very short.

True. I hope he'll "focus" on his solo career instead.....

The Screaming Trees collection is nice. If you like it, also check out "Sweet Oblivion" and "Dust" which are my favorite Trees albums.

I agree with you as well i hope he concentrates on his solo work, i am not that big of a Queens fan, they have some decent tracks but it reminds me of Kyuss , too much stoner rock.

The Screeming Trees were cool , i like Sweet Oblivion alot as well.

I read Kurt Cobain's journal again the other night and  he mentioned Mark alot, i would love to hear some of the stuff they recorded together, it has to be great.

Been listening to Bubblegum a few times now, have to say it's a great album. The music's really atmospheric, I like the pictures it paints. There's some good variety there too.

Still doesn't beat Tom Waits though Wink

...Not that it should.

I've had this album since sept last year and I've just finished listening to the album for the first time. I left it in Madrid and never got back until last weekend...anyway...

First listen, I'm not too amazed. Maybe it's the kind of album that grows on you after a few listens, but I do have a tendency to judge albums on first listenings and I must say, I was expecting something better after all the hype.  Seems like Lanegan left the best song for last "Out of Nowhere".

I'll give it a few more listens and see...

Listen to the following since you liked "Out Of Nowhere":

"When Your Number Isn't Up", "One Hundred Days", "Strange Religion".

Then the faster songs: "Hit The City", "Sideways In Reverse", "Driving Death Valley Blues"

After that explore the rest including all the "weirder" songs....  Grin

Gave it another listen again a while ago...

I like One hundred days and also a song he does with PJ Harvey (not Hit the City...) I just can't remember the title.

Strange Religion is ok, but I can't barely hear a voice other than Lanegan's (or maybe is not Lanegan). You can hear a back up vocal, but I wouldn't know those singing are Duff & Izzy. I think it's Duff on the line" Almost call it day..." (1'28").

Speaking of that collaboration, how come this guy managed to guest Izzy on a song?

I still say the best song of the record is Out of Nowehere by a mile.

I reallyl ike this album it got me into all of his stuff. Whiskey' is also a great album. I think his work sounds better in the later parts of fall as dumb as that sounds, It just fits the mood.

As for Duff and Izzy's parts in Strange Religion, it is preety easy to tell when Duff is singing background's and Izzy as well. Duff sings the high harmonies and Izzy sings the lower parts , he sounds like Tom Petty to me on that song.

It pains me to say this and i will never live it down in the eyes of the humble dictator...

...

But...

I heard "Hit The City" on Scuzz (English TV channel) about a week ago and i was like, who the fuck has this great fucking voice? And it was none other than Mr Mark Lanegan and friends.
Well fuck me, i was blown away by just how good this guy is.. Ive downloaded Bubblegum from Itunes and its a beautiful piece of musicianship!

Jarmo you bastard! Stop recommending!

You know, I saw your name listed as the last poster in the Lanegan thread and was wondering if you had gotten this thread confused with the "Songs you like to listen to while getting beaten up by a drunk Irishman" thread.... Wink

But you're right, "Bubblegum" still sounds fresh and just great even after a year of being released.

I can't believe it's almost a year since we saw him live in London. That was a great show.  Cool

/jarmo

Great idea for a thread.
However, the only time Chris touched me was when i was asleep or unconcious and it was neither violent nor satisfying so he failed to fulfill me on both counts.

Back on topic.

Loving this album, why do you always turn me on to music I wouldnt normally touch with a 10 foot barge pole?

Mind you with that being said, im always looking for something different or unique and Mark definately has that with his awesome voice...i cant help feeling he would be a lot better doing some fast rock and roll tracks not taking away from "Hit the City" in anyway cus its a fantastic tune!  ok

Yes, this is Lanegan related:

Isobel Campbell to Deliver Two Albums Next Year

Zach Vowell reports:
As Belle & Sebastian soldier on without her, chanteuse Isobel Campbell recently signed V2, who will release not one but two albums by the dewy-voiced indie-pop goddess next year. The product of a long-distance collaboration with Screaming Trees/Queens of the Stone Age howler Mark Lanegan, Ballad of the Broken Seas will appear sometime early in 2006, but a single, the duo's cover of Hank Williams' "Ramblin' Man", will come out as soon as November in the UK. The single will feature two B-sides, "Further into the Night" and "Revolver (Part 2)", the latter being an alternate version of a Lanegan-penned number that appears on the proper album. You can find it in here somewhere:

01 Deus Ibi Est
02 Black Mountain
03 The False Husband
04 Ballad of the Broken Seas
05 Revolver
06 Ramblin' Man
07 (Do You Wanna) Come Walk With Me
08 Saturday's Gone
09 It's Hard to Kill a Bad Thing
10 Honey Child What Can I Do?
11 Dusty Wreath
12 The Circus Is Leaving Town

I bought a new receiver and speakers a while ago, and Bubblegum is one of those albums with such a rich aural landscape, that it sounds like a whole new record when listened to with quality equipment.
