According to Harp Magazine's website, Patti Hood has done session work with Guns N' Roses... obviously, she's plays the harp...

I'm assuming this is refering to recent work since I don't really remember her being on any old stuff... but I could be wrong, anyone know?

The band has two keyboard players - a harp is not going over the top.

According to the article (which had all of two lines about her) she's also worked with Tool.

"FIRE AND ICE!"
quiet bits with just a harp and pitman then the band kicks into a heavy section - all three guitars blazing

They had 36 (??) songs at various stages of completion.  Harp could be on material for the 2nd or 3rd cd.  Whatever, I trust Axl's artistic flavor so whatever he puts in there it will be mindblowing.

Thanks for the info.  Wait, the harp could be part of an intro to a song. That would make sense.  Right??

Hahaha, I love how some of you overreact..

It's just a harp. I'm sure it's gonna be in one of those orchestrated songs (we know about this for quite some time) with violins, cellos and other stuff aswell. What's the big deal?

Edited: here's the quote:

Patti Hood
Her r?sum? is incredibly diverse?session work with members of Tool, Guns N? Roses, the Church?but it was Harpo Marx who made the biggest impact. On her website, she reveals she took up the instrument when he appeared to her in a dream.

As far as I know, there's no mention of Chinese Democracy itself.

http://harpmagazine.com/articles/detail.cfm?article_id=4948&SearchWord=Patti%20Hood

it says "session work with members of" it could mean anything

EDIT

and the explanation is on her website:

Quote
1996
Performed on three songs on Zoo/Volcano Records LUSK album, Free Mars with former and current members of Tool and Guns 'N Roses.
http://www.pattihood.net/html/resume.html

she played with Pitman!!

I have a friend who plays harps. Not easy to play.
What wrong with a harp? Huh It's a stringed instrument like a guitar.

well hes gone way over the top if it is true.

8 people onstage including 3 guitar players and 2 keyboard players, and a $13+ million recording budget with a 10 year production period isn't already over-the-top?

I guess our definitions are slightly different  ok

It sometimes takes a break from the norm to get the sound that an artist wants, Cradle of Filth use angle grinders and Depeche Mode are classic exponents of obscure sounds.

A harp almost sound unremarkable...  does have a kind of chinese steriotypical sound to it IMHO
