The ole Koontz vs King argument.

I always tell people that Koontz is Bon Jovi, King is Guns N Roses both are great but King is more complicated and more intricate whereas Koontz is poppy and easier to digest.

I don't know if you were replying to my post or not...but, I wasn't trying to start a Koontz vs King debate.  I was just responding to the previous posts...  My point was, Deaver's novels are a different genre entirely. 

I've stated before that Stephen King is my fave author.  Although, I've been disappointed in the last 2 I've read.  Still...he has an amazing backlog in my opinion.  There are some that I can read again and again.  Oh man, now I'm going to have to dig out The Stand or Needful Things.     And I just went to the library today and got a load of books to start on.

I got this book from the library and its called The Donor, and its about this guy who keeps getting his organs taken out for donations without his permission.
I read the first two chapters and it was pretty interesting. After that, I couldn't understand what the hell they were talking about and I was all like "WTF!! This makes no sense. I quit!!"

The last good, understandable book I read was The Giver by Lois Lowry. It was an awesome book and if you don't read it, you'll die. Mmkay??

Im on a Dean Koontz forum and they always argue about who is better.

Ive wanted to use the whole Bon Jovi/GNR thing but those people probably wouldnt get the analogy.

Koontz is great but in a more easy accessible way. King makes u think more, doesnt really follow a formula and develops characters way better than Koontz.

Koontz' stories are formulatic,action packed and easy fun reads. Just no where as epic as King.

Jeffrey Deaver "Praying For Sleep"

I bought it for 3.25 at my used book store.

I read 80 pages last night in the first sitting and this book is extremely good.


AxlPrez your wife was right, he is a great writer.


I like Koontz' Dialogue between characters a little better, but Deaver is definitely very good.

D, glad you're enjoying it...true to my word, I shall begin tonight!  My wife smiled and remarked it's not even his best book.  She has said that all of his books are good, so glad you're enjoying it.  I'm starting it after my bike ride for the night.

Who was it that read The Eyre Affair? I was interested so I bought it, back when... whoever it was that was reading it was reading it. I only actually started it properly a few weeks ago, and I finished it the other day.

I thought that it was good, but a bit rough around the edges. Some things were tied up way too quickly. What I really love about it is the mythos, all the SO's and that what you gots. Plus the Shakespeare stuff! I thought alll that was bloody brilliant. But, as I said, how things were rounded off could have done with some polishing.

There are, what, three other books? I'm expecting Acheron back, and I'll boycot the series if he isn't!

Anyway, whoever it was that read it, have you read any of the other books in the series? Do they get better, worse, you know. I'll definitely pick up the second one in good time anyway though.

^^ Cool.  I randomly bought it from a bookstore at an airport in Alaska because well, I liked the cover  , and I needed something to read on the plane back to LA.

But it was a moment of serendipity as I discovered the wacky wit of Mr Jasper Fforde!  What tickled me the most was how the general populace was crazy about Byron and the Bard.

The 2nd book in the series, Lost In a Good Book is even rougher around the edges.  I still recommend reading it, but to be honest there are too many sub-plots going on.  As for Acheron, I dont want to spoil the book for you, but Thursday already has her hands full with another formidable character of Dickensian infamy.

I will, of course, pick it upa dn read it, but right now it isn't that high on my priorities. ... That said, I'll proabdy have tsrated it by tyhe end of 6the week.
Have you read any of his other books. Ffordes, of course. I have heard only good things about his... his new sries, or whatever.

read it in one extended (16hrs) sitting, great book and looking forward to the last book in the series (11th)

Praying For Sleep by Jeffrey Deaver was absolutely unbelievably mindblowing as hell.

I never saw the ending coming and I had to stop to figure it all out.

This book was intense, amazing and had a twist that U just wont believe in a million years.

Excellent recommendation Axl4prez' wife.

I'm reading 'The Devil's Teardrop' by Deaver now. So far so good. I would recommend 'The Maiden's Grave' as well. I'm sure all of u have seen the Bone Collector, so that takes the fun out of reading the book.

I just read the Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen autobiographies on holiday and now I'm about to read Scar Tissue, the autobiography of Anthony Kiedis.

I have actually never watched that movie. So the book is still readable!! Although I'm positive the book would be 100 times better anyway.

I just finished Praying for Sleep!  My wife's got good taste!  Great twist.  Once the ball was rolling toward the end I couldn't put the book down.     The description of Portia was...yummy.    I definitely got a nice image of that chick in my mind!
