Has anyone read any Harlan Coben books? I'm on my third one in a row. I started reading his stuff years ago when I read
Gone For Good
. I'm reading his newest book
The Innocent
. The last one I read was
Just One Look
. That was the
BEST
book I've ever read. I thought Gone For Good was the best, but Just One Look was better. I just did checked his website and COOL BEANS! His new book will be released on my birthday!! I would love to discuss some of thise book if someone would message me.?

Finally read Odd Thomas and Forever Odd by Dean Koontz. Loved both of them but liked the first better. So many good characters in the first that by the nature of the story, couldnt be in the second.
Next, I'll either finish Godfather Returns, or start Life Expectancy
Life Expectancy is a pretty kick ass novel, u should like it.
I havent read my Odd Thomas or Forever Odd yet but I will once I buy Forever Odd.
Im reading Phil Jackson *LA Lakers coach* book he wrote a couple years ago The Last Season, great insightful read thus far.

The Man in the High Castle
-- by Philip K Dick
A chillling alternate reality that many of us have probably thought about while on the toilet, on the bus, or driving down long stretches of empty roads. The best $8 I ever spent!

A fuckin' awesome book. I love all that Dick does but I really think this is his finest work (just in front of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"). Tagomi's meltdown in the park and subsequent vision (or visit to be more accurate) is so heartwrenching. I really felt for this character above everyone else.

cool, another PKD fan
yeah, Tagomi's 'visit' really blew my mind, and now I'm wondering if Juliana was able to do the same thing when she found out from the Man that his ending to the war was, in fact, true. That there are parallel truths, and each one is no truer than another, it's very relativistic.
I'm currently reading
A Scanner Darkly
by Mr. PKD. It is an unsettling, disquieting and disturbing book but I'm addicted to it...

I'm an occasional fiction reader and have also read Life Expectancy...good recommendation D.
My wife reads alot, and she recommends an author by the name of Jeffrey Deaver. She says he's alot better than Koontz, so take that for what it's worth.
Her recommendation is to try Deaver.
My recommendation is a nice read called Freakonomics. It's a quick read. Not too heavy, but thought-provoking.

Jeffrey Deaver is pretty good, but it's not the same kind of book. Koontz is more like Stephen King...horror, I guess.
Deaver is more of a crime writer. You may have seen a movie or two based on his books. Have you seen The Bone Collector? If so, that's based on a Deaver novel. Most are based around a criminalogist (sp?) that happens to be a parapelgic. (sp?) (Oh my god, I'm losing my spelling skills.) Anyway, Deaver books are good reads. Just a different genre than Koontz.

The ole Koontz vs King argument.
I always tell people that Koontz is Bon Jovi, King is Guns N Roses both are great but King is more complicated and more intricate whereas Koontz is poppy and easier to digest.

1421: The Year China Discovered the World
Just got started, but am already in a state of shock, not 20 pages in and their already chopping young boys dicks off........you know, because of tradition.........Yikes.
Should be an interesting read, it's a rather large book, but whatever. I'll get around to reading it when I'm in the mood. If I really feel like reading, I can polish off a book a night, if not, it takes me for-fucking-ever.

D, my wife is looking over my shoulder now, and said, "Yes," when I read her your quote!
She said you hit the nail on the head with the King vs. Koontz debate. Koontz's work is tailor-made for the masses. I'll leave it at that!
I'm asking my wife right now for an example...it's very hard for her because she says they're all good. Try "Praying for Sleep." She's got it upstairs right now. I tell you what D. I'll read it this week, and we'll compare notes.
