What did you think of her?

I was impressed with her writing. I'll have to read some more of her work to fully appreciate her style.

Well if you liked her writing then I'm going to give a little advice:

Do away with the superficial stigma surrounding the supposed "genre", and go pick up Interview. This will give you access to a wonderfully written book (certainly one of her best), a wonderful series (though somewhat redundant and waning near the end) full of fascinating characters, ideas and some exemplary novels, as well as a good foothold into an expansive Universe that includes the Mayfair Witch trilogy; a trilogy that is an integral part of the Chronicles (Vampire) I might add, as the two become inexorably linked as the overall narrative progresses.

And of course you could always start with the first Mayfair novel, The Witching Hour, instead of going the Vampire route straight away. You are after all just testing the water.

Anyway my main point is thus - if you're willing to give the crazy old bat a go, you'd be much better served by tackling her best work first and then maybe moving on to other novels (if you ever get that far!) after the fact.

I've seen the movie, Interview With A Vampire. But I'm sure the book is a lot better. I'll give it a try.

Yeah the book is a different animal altogether. Which is so often the case between film and page anyway.

ive had "a scanner darkly" by phillip k dick for a while but only started reading it about a month ago and havnt really had chance to read much.i know it was recently mentioned by axl but has anyone else read it and what did you think.by the way ive read about 30 pages so far but when my work slows down,ill get into it again coz its a book that cant be rushed.

Not yet, but I really should. It's on my to read list.

Studying Classics, I pretty much know everything about it already, so I am definatly going to soon.

The Odyssey is...Incredible. Have you read it?

try Memnoch the devil or any anne rice cycle. pretty good.

i started  Fritz Leiber cycles ( lankhmar cycle). pretty good. basic sword&magic fantasy. but with modern twists (character relation)

Well, at least you were made to read it at all. We aren't in England. Any study of Literature is allways Shakespeare and Bronte, Shakespeare and Bronte...

Classical works are good though.

Well, Shakepeare is good, if you take away the feeling of school that comes with it...

My main problem with Shakepeare is that if you want to study Literature then you are looking at having to study at least four of his plays while you work your way through the system...

Now, while personally I don't mind that much, it does make it feel a bit forced, and puts a lot of people off studying Literature...

Anyway, what am I reading at the moment...

David Gemmel's Lord of the Silver Bow, Ludlum's Identity and Nicholson's The Wind Singer.

Oh, they're all very good.

I'm reading "Becoming a Tiger" by Susan McCarthy. It's really interesting - about animal behavior.
I think I'm going to re-read "Secret History" by Donna Tartt, too. That's one my favorites.

reading The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. That and Interview With A Vampire also by Anne Rice and The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova are my favorite books. There is also a series called Left Behind. 12 books in all. Very good.

Finally started "Christine"  great book so far, King never ceases to amaze me.

Cant wait to pick up his new book "Cell"

I dont know the name of it but I saw that Dean Koontz has a new book out about someone who can communicate with the dead. I know its the second in the series, but what was the first book.

If you want to read the scariest book in the world read 'House of Leaves' by Mark Z Danielewski... I kid you not, it's damn frightening.

If u liked Whispers u should check out "Watchers" that is considered by Koontz fans as his greatest novel.

I enjoyed Odd Thomas but didn't care for Forever Odd as much.
