The Eyre Affair  by Jasper Fforde

so I casually picked up this book for some airplane reading from LA to Alaska, and I was mighty surprised!

This is a great book filled with magic (for all you Harry Potter fans),  mystery (for er... all you Sherlock Holmes fans), humor and even a bit of science fiction.

The main character is called Thursday Next, and she investigates literary crimes.  You see, there's this evil man who steals the Prose Portal from a scientist, and uses to enter the literary universe of novels and poems.  He steals the characters, kidnaps/murders them  , and forever alters the storyline!  Poor Dickens and Bronte are the victim authors here.

I'm still in the middle of it.   Great book so far

MCT how come u didnt like Pet Sematary?

You know what? I did like it a little. But either way I didn't like the ending - I expected more -plus I felt that it was poorly written in terms of basic fuckin' sentence structure and the like.

But King does have that innate ability to evoke a sense of fearful unease in the most domestic of situations with the most domestic of props. And for that I'll give him a slight nod.

I recently read the biography of Gishin Funakoshi (spelled it right? ), he was the reformer of the modern Karate. Great personality. If you do martial arts you should not forget that book.

Just finished the DaVinci Code. A good read that made me question a few things. Also just re-read the Dark Tower books 1-6. Can't wait for #7, but in a way, I kinda don't want to read it because I don't want it to end. In my opinion, these are Kings best stories. Actually, alot of his best books are not the horror stories that made him famous. The Body, a short story that was later turned into the movie Stand by me. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, another short story that was turned into a great movie. The Mist, The Long Walk, The Langoliers, all great short stories.

Used Illusions you are right.? It takes no time at all to read Harry Potter.? And they are very engaging, once you get into them they are hard to put down.? I'm not saying they are Lord of the Rings, which are clearly more complex and just, well, better.? But they are fun.? So lighten up, spend $5 and a couple days, depending on how fast you read.? You might be pleasantly surprised.?

I guess if you like to brag to people about what you've read, Harry Potter isn't good for that.? It won't make you feel smarter than anyone else at a party, except for the fact that you can actually read.?

So how do you choose what you read?? Because if its by recommendation, I've never heard anyone who has read Harry Potter say that it wasn't worth it.

I've also finished reading the Da Vinci code by Dan Brown. its a fantastic book and a great read. If u havent read it now, u'll be wasting ur time. i read this as well as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and believe me, 1/2 blood prince is as gripping as this novel

Some of my favorite books would include - all 3 of books featuring the good doctor... (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal), Lord of the Rings, true crime books, anything about psychology.  Lately, though, I've been reading more and more about Kabbalah.   My wife's followed it since before Ashton and Demi started sportin' the little red strings.

I have all 7 dark tower books now but havent started, how is it so far?

It's great. It's tough in places to begin with, but if you plough through it the rewards are more than there.

Unfortunatly, not having read any other King books I can't really compare it.

There's places King goes with the book that I would never have imagined.

I think that it's best to know close to absoloutly nothing before starting the books. Though, I feel that way in regards to most books and films...

When I went away for a week a few weeks back, and forget The Drawing of the Three (the second book, which I was reading at the time), I was so annoyed.

With four books left, I have no idea where he's going to take this story, bearing in mind that the latter books are huge.

Try and read King's introduction at the beggining. If you don't have the revised issues of the first four books, it will be in the last three, because he wrote it while finishing the books.

I have the revised first book but I didnt know he revised the other 3

If u havent read it, u must read "The Stand" it is absolutely the greatest book u will ever read, the whole thing is so amazing. I cant even begin to describe to you how totally flawless that book is.

The characters,storyline,plot, everything is so well done that u will never forget the characters.
