Easily one of the best books I've read. It's a great story of determination and the triumph of the human spirit. I really liked the quote, "a man can be destroyed but not defeated."

Like you said, its easily one of the best books I've ever read.
Beneath the surface, the book also contains quite a few religious aspects.
A good man commits a sin for which he repents, he redeems himself and is forgiven, etc.
I found the ending rather heartbreaking.
Eventhough he was defeated by the fish, at the same time, his confidence in himself as an accomplished fisherman in the end is restored.

Currently reading Girl, Interrupted.
I love the movie, but the book is, as they say, so much better.

Just finished Perfume by Patrick S?skind. Great book, very well written and totally unique. "Scentless Apprentice" by Nirvana is based on that book.

Almost done reading
On the Road with the Ramones
.
The Ramones' music has influenced nearly every power pop, punk, alternative, and metal band. Monte A. Melnick served as The Ramones tour manager from their early New York club days in the '70s to their farewell gigs in 1996.
Yet another book about a rock band.

Blaze - Stephen King
Huge huge fan, but his last 5 or so books have been disappointingly shithouse considering his fine work of the past. I had serious reservations about this book, but the forward by ol Kingy filled me with hope when he said that this book was actually written in 1972 and he is only now publishing it. This book is fucking great, and classic King.

I am currently reading "Broken" by Cope Moyers. It is about his addiction to crack cocaine and trying to live in his father's shadow. Some books I recommend that I really liked:
Bastard Out of Carolina
The Poisonwood Bible
She's Come Undone
White Oleander
The Lovely Bones
Riding the Bus with my Sister
I have many, many more as I am an avid reader but that's all I can think of right now. Most of my taste runs from biographies to depressing fiction. Don't know why I attract to depressing fiction. I also read some self help but usually get bored mid way through and abandon the book.
