I like the fanmade "angel" sound TWAT that was going around, instead of the newest Pitman one.? LOVE the song though, and it should be on the album!

I havent heard that one,
although It intrigues me...

The very first time I heard this song,
I loved HOW axl sang the lyrics...,

Whenever I hear new gnr songs, or new songs for that matter, I listen to the way the singer sings the songs, before I listen to the words,

I loved how axl makes the last line of each verse flow to the next line

eg, "Broken glass and ciggarettes, writing on the Wall"
" It was a bargain for the summer and I thought I had it all"

Beautiful work...

I love the drum fills,
everything, the breakdowns, although Sometimes towards the end of the song , I think bucket looses a bit of direction,
But I think it will be fixed like the poster above me said, when Everything is clearer and mixed properly...
Because everything seems to be recorded at the same level sometimes...

Great fucking song nontheless. beer

Beautiful song. Almost has a movie soundtrack vibe to it, but I certainly was not let down when I first heard it. I think it has potential to have an awesome Video. Listen to it often, and got my brother addicted to it too.  ok

Don't worry dude, I still get teary-eyed listening to There Was A Time Wink

TWAT, even in the form of various leaked demos, is one of GN'R's best songs, past or present. Take that one to heart ok

Yep, I think TWAT is probably gonna be GN'Rs best song when (if) it's finally released, it'll even top my favourite power-ballad of all time: 'Estranged'!!!

Come on Axl, release the bloody album!!!!!!!!!!!  rant

Always liked the song and appreciate very much the guitar work, BUT, when you listen to the tune, it just never seems to flow for me, untill the guitar solos start coming in. The whole melody up untill that point, just doesn't do it for me. That being said, however, once the first chorus comes in of " Yeah, there was a time, ..... "   I find that part pure gold and the rest of the song untill the end is fantastic

I'm pretty sure most folks get it from the beginning...this is one hell of a song.  It still gives me chills.  That choir-like intro. is absolutely killer.  The old band gave us Estranged...now the new band There Was a Time.  I am a very happy man.   peace

Thanks Stoned, I'm not alone...but if you're "Stoned," could it be glassy-eyed instead of teary-eyed?   hihi

I'd pay anything for an official video of this tune.   yes

I love the song, but I don't think it has anything in common with Estranged besides the outstanding quality.

I like the song, but do people really like the Chorus part of the song?

It was a long time with you,
it was a long time with me,
it'd be a long time for anyone,
but looks like it's meant to be.

I think it's not catchy at all and it just sounds like noise.  I also think Axl's singing is better on songs like Better or Madagascar.

I think the song could be much better.

No, I was not talking about this chorus - I dislike this actually

I was talking about the  " Yeah, there was a time / Do you want to know it all..... part

I like the chorus a lot with the heavy pounding guitars in the newest leaked version of the song.

I still stand by the fact I think this is the most amazing of the new songs.  I can't wait to hear the band do this one live.

Ali, I agree with the chorus, it fits fine.

Honestly I feel that TWAT is as close to perfection as you can get.  Every time I listen to it I'm so blinded by its majestic awesomeness that I'm unable to remain objective.  The prospect of the studio version is what keeps me optimistic.

A perfect track to end an album. Mostly because it's so great it would be almost impossible to follow. I always have trouble thinking of a song to listen to after listening to it.

The couple of times I've burned myself a CD with the leaks for the car I always made TWAT last.  It's so epic that it's impossible for any song to follow in my mind.  Just as Chinese Democracy must be the opening track, TWAT serves as the perfect culmination of the record.

Of all the new material that we've heard, I've always thought that 'There Was A Time' had great single potential.
There's a lot of good stuff in it but then again it's pretty long and more of a sappy song than a rocker like 'Chinese Democracy', 'Better', or 'IRS'.

Most of the non-Guns fans that I've played tracks to prefer 'Better' and 'The Blues' over all the other stuff.

It is pretty cool the way it ends. I always have started any CD with Better, It's just a good way to get things going

I know what you're saying and would not be disappointed in the slightest if they choose Better for the opening song.  I just get that "Axl's back" vibe from Chinese Democracy with the slow build-up into the scream.

And, for the sake of staying on topic, TWAT is the awesome.  Cool

Really? My friends, somewhat "sort of" Guns fans, prefer TWAT over the others, and I myself prefer Better.

But I will admit TWAT is an explosively great song, and I have to crank up the volume on my computer every time I play it. The guitars in it are just amazing.

I don't know why, but that part has really grown on me over the last year or so. Gets stuck in my head very easily.
