A 3rd album in early '09?
«
on:
November 06, 2007, 08:12:13 PM »
From the VR forum, an interview with Duff and Dave from Music Live magazine:
Well with that lingering image only one question remains to be asked: bearing in mind all that?s been said about band relationships and the draining tours is Velvet Revolver really here to stay? Will we see an album number three?
?Well, never say never,? says Duff, ?But I for one certainly hope so.?
?It seems like everyone?s looking forward to a third record,? says Dave, ?So we?re doing Europe and the States in 08 and then this time we?re looking to do a record sooner rather than later??
That?s all we?re going to get out of them for now then but things sound decidedly promising.
For now we?re going to have to make do with the two excellent albums already out, and the gigantic live shows.
---------------
Sounds promising

I really hope so.
But what bothers me is that they talk like the band is on the verse of breaking up.

Not to stir shit up, but I really hope this album is actually good. :/. Libertad was ok, but seriously, these guys need to set the bar much higher. They are living legends! What are they doing with subpar albums?
Put something legendary out.

Remember when we were first hearing about Libertad and Scott said he wanted to do a concept album, a la Dark Side?
I reckon this is the perfect time to do that. Push their creativity and do something outside of their comfort zone.

I haven't listened to Libertad since I bought it, I'd much rather Slash went back to his solo thing so we can hear some good guitar riffing and soloing, rather than have him play watered-down STP sounding stuff like what's on Libertad.

I half agree.
Contraband
was a good record, and if they went back to playing that sort of thing, I'd be satisfied. I think that album is better than Slash's solo stuff. But I wholeheartedly agree that
Libertad
was much too tame, much too STP sounding for my liking. I also can't seem to muster up the desire to play
Libertad
over and over.

It would make sense, didn't they have a 3 album contract with RCA?
This way they could put the third album out quickly and not have any more ties, that way if they decide they want to go their separate way there's no problem with them doing so.
I like Libertad, I think some parts of it are better than Contraband, I think some parts are worse.
I just wish Velvet Revolver would reach it's potential. Both albums are good, but everyone knows that these individuals have so much more talent. Maybe they just don't gel good enough together, maybe they're not as interested and as focused as they used to be, maybe this is the type of music they want to make and they think it's really good... who knows.
I just hope if there is a third VR album that it blows the first two out of the water.

The lack of solos on Contraband was because Slash felt restricted. He wanted to save money and ended up recording guitars in some small studio where he didn't feel comfortable (according to his book).
Then Libertad was done with Brendan and everybody seemed happy because the band had played together longer.
So if Libertad was the best they can do, why would the next album be that different?
Rick Rubin wanted them to write more songs, they didn't want that. They wanted to record the stuff they had.
Considering 2009 is about 14 months away and they have some tours to finish, it doesn't seem like they'll have much time to work on an album if they wanna get it out in early 2009.

nonsense, the band could easily finish touring by the end of July.
Plenty of time to write and record before the new year, get it out maybe by march.

slash, duff and izzy should start a new band (not reunite with Axl, but maybe put their shit behind)
matt sorum could start a band with vince niel or some other guy i don't like
scott can go back with the brothers and reunite STP

HAHAHAHA, but it just might not work those two, according to Axl in the Illusions DVD Matt Sorum bashes hard enough to turn your brains in to mashed rice, or something along that lines and according to Izzy, VInce Niel hits like a powderpuff. So this would be an ill-advised collaboration

True true, and I understand that, but these guys should be capable you know?
I think they need to bar down, not tour for too long, and spend alot of time making a great album. It should be epic. Lol. And I'm not saying they should try and create some opus, but at least some great rock n roll. Not just subpar...
