Nice. They have been on sale in the UK for a while (so I hear, but perhaps only to order) but it's nice that they are finally on Fender's website. I have a Jazz Special in creamy white with an unpainted neck. They are great basses!
Time to make them in black, Fender!

I got a white one and a black one. Both had rusty bridges that I replaced with better after market bridges.
I thought that Fender would upgrade the bridges on this model, apparently not. Same piece of bent metal.

Yeah, I found that odd too. I'm lucky in that my bass is a later model, which had the Badass-esque bridge. They upgraded the body to alder (from basswood), so you'd think they wouldn't have a problem with upgrading the bridge too. But then it wouldn't look the same.

The bridges I use are only a 1/2 an inch longer. You wouldn't really be able to tell the difference anyways with them being black and such. Kind of wished they used the old Fender rubber gripped "F" knobs too.

The originals were made in Japan. The company that made the Fender Japan got together with
Tokai(I believe) and became another guitar company altogether. Why is that weird?

IMO no matter where a guitar is made, Mexico, China whatever, if the guitar is made by a quality company, you can expect the same from the guitar since they build those to specs. You only have to worry about companies that are based in Mexico or China.

I don't think you can say that a bass is of low quality simply because it is made in a certain country.
Fender make guitars all over the world. They have their flagship factory in California, and their best guitars come from there. They use better wood (and usually fewer pieces), better finish (in some cases), better electronics and spend more time on the instrument before it is released. Their factory in Mexico uses cheaper labour and cheaper materials (bodies are often made up of 8 or more pieces of wood). But to say that an instrument from the US factory is good and one from the Mexico factory is bad is missing the point.
US made Fenders have more hands-on time, they are more handmade than their Mexican counterparts. However, it is in Fender's best interests to make instruments which are not crap; Mexican instruments are still well made.
I think that every musician has, at some point, picked up a badly made US Fender. Some guitars are simply lemons. On a percentage, more Mexican made guitars would be lemons compared to US or Japan guitars. But a guitar which is great is great not because it has been made somewhere, it is great because the woods work well.
Aero: your local sellers say that Mexican instruments are of low quality so you will spend more money (more money for them) on an American made guitar. The idea that country of origin affects quality (all other parts being equal) is 60% bullshit and 40% racism. The idea that materials and electronics and how much time the guitar has spent with a human (which differs by factory) affects quality is true.
I have been playing guitar for a little under 20 years. I also do repair work on guitars. I have seen thousands and played hundreds of them. With the internet, everyone is an expert. So many half-truths are now being accepted as gospel, simply because enough people are saying something they read on a forum somewhere. Don't believe the hype!

Er...well, ?5.99 would be cheap!
But at ?599, you are still getting a good deal. If Fender's specs are correct (there have been cases...) you are getting a great bass. With a maple neck and now an alder body this is a pretty standard bass, so with the P and J pickups you can get a good P or J sound out of it as well as the Duff "both on 10" sound. Kind of.
If I had cash burning a hole in my pocket I'd be all over it!

Why would you like a "Duff Signature" in black when Pearl White is the colour Duff uses? If you want a black bass there are plenty to choose from.

Because he uses both white and black. Mainly black now, but also a fair bit in his GNR days.

It started out as "Pearl White". Now it's just like mine, a smoke stained off whitish yellow.
Jesus, Duff looks so young in that last picture.
