Too late for 2007?
«
on:
October 02, 2007, 02:48:35 AM »
It's October 1st - that's pretty much the annual "the clock has struck midnite" for all of us old GNR fans which basically translates into "no announcement by this date, no alubum this year". I have this on my calendar every year and so far it hasn't failed me yet (haha - theoretically that could be said for the other 364 days out of the year I suppose too though
)
I, like so many others, was actually hoping for a new album and fall tour announcement but no dice yet. Baz's new album gives me alittle hope though that perhaps Axl is planning a U.S. tour this spring to support a new album which lends slight (and I mean slicht given every retailers false release dates until now) credence to the February Amazon date someone posted earlier. This is about the earliest i can see the album dropping with anywhere near the proper promotion it needs.
Anyhow, what does everyone else think?

Is it unlikely that Chinese Democracy will come out this year? Definitely. Still possible? Absolutely.
The best proof that it's still possible is Gwen Stefani's album last year. It was announced the first or second week of October with a release date for mid December. Who's to say that this can't happen with Chinese Democracy. Will it? If I was a betting man I'd have to say no. You could also point to Radiohead's new album being released in nine days (it was just announced today). Mind you, they don't have a record contract and are releasing it on their own using digital distribution.
Nothing is impossible, but most is predictable.
Cheers,
Andrew

Radiohead have also announced that fans can pay anything they like for the downloadable album... an interesting concept - how much would people pay for Chinese Democracy right now?

Radiohead have no record deal and their record has probably cost almost nothing to make. I somehow don't see Axl being allowed to post mp3 files on the net and saying 'Pay whatever you want! You don't hve to pay if you don't want to!'.
Radiohead are following in Prince's footsteps in looking for alternative distribution methods outside the music business. The new Guns record, like Springsteen's 'Magic', will be one of the last to be fully promoted in the same way big releases have been up until now.

^ you don't know that. while I think the promotion will he huge, I think it will also be somewhat different. don't know in which way, but I just have a feeling.
in that regard, it is definately not too late for 2007, but I don't believe it will be out this year. but that's just my own negative attitude clouding my judgement.

At this point in the game I don't believe we're gonna get the album this year.

It's like we blinked and 2007 is almost gone. I personally am kind of surprised they haven't pushed this album out the door yet. Immediately following the tour would have been perfect, they were riding high on some really positive reviews and feedback.
As for Radiohead's new one, I would say it's one of the few albums that might push CD into an early 2008 release, because a new Radiohead album is stiff competition.

90 days until 08'
Don't see it happening, I mean what happened to march 7th and only minor delays and Axl's promise to get the album out as soon as possible if they miss the tentative date. Seems to me 7 months is more than a minor delay and should be at least acknowledged by the band. How can you throw away all the momentum of the tour and not follow it up with album. This is really absurd. Also why cancel dates last december to get the #1 priority, the album, out and still not get it out?
? I mean seriously if Axl doesn't get this album out soon, I fear that the band will break up. How long can Robin, Ron, Richard, etc. stay in a band that won't release their work. I am sure they want the world to hear original music. It has been 5 years since the first chinese democracy tour and over a year since the hammerstein comeback show when axl dropped the hockey jersey and came back kicking ass. Either put the album out or shut down the site and stop jerking the fans around with this fiasco. I love axl, gnr and the music but this is getting to be a utter joke. I can't even defend the band to my friends anymore.

A Dec. or Jan release would not be a good idea-at this point for marketing he would be better off waiting until after the holidays-magazines tend to go with year end issues, greatest hits and boxed sets usually are pushed around the holidays-I'd like to see him get cover stories on a lot of magazines

Its getting to the point where I can't come up with a reason why it is taking so long.
Wonder who will put out a CD first, GNR or VH with DLR?

As big of a fan of GNR as I am, I'd say VH w/ DLR first. And I don't mean a hits package, I mean a new studio record.

I'm a huge Van Halen fan-it's been frustrating with these 2 bands-it's been 10 years since a Van Halen album (I was not impressed with the 3 new Sammy songs). Oh well

As silly as that press release was last year, atleast it gave us hope...right up until the final Tuesday. I'd love to hear another silly press release like that...too bad Merck is gone.
