IRISH BY BIRTH, CORK BY THE GRACE OF GOD

« on: September 28, 2007, 09:26:14 PM »

I'm just listening to one in a million and this song is brilliant from a musical point of view. The lyrics which caused hassle I feel are holding back the song from being appreciated as it should. Those words are extremely offensive to certain groups of people in our world, and Axl has said he was refering to low lifes in society. But to use those words was a bad move by Axl and the band, and especially as Slash is half black, I'm suprised that he allowed the song to be realised when it contained one word in particular which is racist toward black people. Slash even said in BTM that he felt uncomfortable when the word was mentioned in the song, but left it be released that way.

Ya we know that word but I'm not going to post it on the forum. And that it doesn't get the credit it deserves is a real shame.

There is no shame to it. That album is my favorite, and that song is one of my favorites ... of all time, and I'm an old fart. For the people that don't "get it", it is their loss.

To me, the way that word is sung in OIAM seems a bit forced and possibly unnecessary. When he sings "immigrants and faggots" though, there's more real anger and spite there.

It's still a great song though. beer
