Absinthe can now be bought legally in the States, but it is just like the stuff from Europe. They haven't really made the "real" stuff for nearly a hundred years. However, it can be found in Asia.

Is this correct?  I know they sell a spirit that is generally the same, but it lacks the wormwood infusion.  I'm pretty sure a lot of what is produced in some Eastern European countries still has wormwood, which is still illegal, here.

I picked up a bottle of Bulliet tonight. It is the first time I have had this in about a year. Of course, one must take this review with a "grain of salt" as my tongue has been burnt.



This is a very distintive Bourbon. Technically, it is a Bourbon, but the mash bill on this just makes it legally Bourbon whiskey. It is 75% corn and nearly 25% rye(Tman it has your name all over it).

The rye is the first thing noticed. It has a very earthy smell and taste.
It is proofed at 90?, but there is no age statement on the bottle.

Bulliet has a patented "aging" process, but most think that the wharehouses are heated to speed up the maturation.

On to the taste:

The first thing one notices is the nuttiness on the nose with just a hint of vanilla.

Vanilla is noticeably absent on the front, but apple and cinnamon are prevalent.

Some have noticed a little heat on the finish, but I barely noticed(old drunk?)

There is absolutely no leather discernable in this fine product. I recomend anyone looking for a little spice to consider this, albiet archaic reciept, fine whiskey.

Finally ran across Michael Jackson's "Whiskey" book at the bookstore the other day.  Lovely book.



Didn't buy it, as coffee table type books require space on a coffee table, but for anyone who wants a good overview of the topic, it's a nice book.
