I am no connoiseur but I did have Glenfiddich Special Reserve the other evening at a friends...sort of tasted smooth and was quite light,an almost fruity tongue on it..overall it seemed quite dry

Maker's Mark is the preferred whiskey of choice!

It is a good begginers whiskey. It is the one that I recommend most commonly to those who are "uninitiated". However, rarely is it on a connoiseur's list of 10 best Bourbons.

Yes. I agree. Unfortunately, that is probably the limit I will spend on good whiskey. If I had money to piss away, I would definitely go more high end. I salivate when in the whiskey aisle to see all the expensive whiskeys and long to try them. Plus, booze never lasts around my house. I'm lucky if the damn bottle lasts more than a week. Do you have a recommendation of something that is around $30 to $50 a bottle?

Lots. I like Rare Breed, Woodford, Pouge, any of the Van Winkle family, any of the Four Roses; if you can find it(especially the Barrel Proof),and any single barrel or small batch will be good depending on your taste. If you can get the 4 roses small batch, it is a good deal at around $25- $30. Oh ... don't forget Knob Creek. It is around the same price as 4 Roses SB. Bulleit is a good "cheap" Bourbon with a high rye content, if you like that, give it a try.

there used to be a drink called ''snake bite'' it was like threee wiskies in one drink.if you could get past like three of these drinks you would be doing good.it was straight to the point drunk this drink.i think southern ,jack,old grandad.was in it i think.i tryed it once never to do it again lol.

I went to the store today; my goal was to educate myself, somewhat, as to the finer points of Scotch. Once I got there, Mr. Pogue was there, with a helper, giving out free samples of his fine liquor.

After that, my intention was to purchase a bottle of his wares, but I came across the 4 Roses single barrel first ... so, my impression; mind you this is after a few. So, take it with a grain of salt.

Four Roses Single Barrel: 100?, there is no age statement, but it tastes very mature. Whether this is an artifact of the maturation process, or something peculiar to the the particular climate during production, I do not know.

This batch came from wharehouse TN; barrel #85-5J

Damn! I have a good one here. I almost hate to drink it.
Nose: has a very fruity sniff; applely and cherry

I'm having one OTR, and my taste buds have undoubtly already been burnt tonight.

This is a very distictive whiskey. Very sweet with the fruitiness coming on strong. Noticable honey with absolutely no leather. There is a slight amount of bitter on the tip and mid on the side. It lingers with a hickorish after taste that is quite pleasant. There is other flavors that I am not picking up on (due to intoxication or burnt tongue). Oh yeah, apple. It reminds me of eating green apples as a child.

If you enjoy fine whiskey, and don't mind spending a dollar or two, this is definately a treasure you will come to cheerish. While it is very difficult to find, it is well worth the effort once it tis located.? ?Cheers
