We take for granted we know the whole story

Lol I made this thread but forgot to post on it... oh well  no anyway... November Rain was the song that made me a GN?R fan...everything was (is)perfect on that song... the lyrics, the melody, the solos, the video... it was and still is my favourite song of all time. So I?m quite happy it is listed on this Gibson poll.  ok

I don?t agree that the guitar solo makes November Rain a great song. I think that Slash?s work is overrated for the media, maybe because he is a very cool guy with the media. November rain is in a whole a wonderful song and I don?t believe that all the people that get in love with NR back in 1992, had taken care specially on the guitar solos. The people who I knew, even people who used to hate GNR and in general rock music, love NR for the lyrics, for the melody and for the video. In my personal opinion the guitar solos in NR are amazing but it is really stupid to say that these solos make NR a wonderful song. NR is a very beautiful song, a really classic song, due to the feelings that transmit the one who write the song (Axl).

I definately think the outro is what turns that song into a classic, as in one of the best songs ever. Great song anyway, but the outro sets it apart. Just so unique and epic and perfect. I'm certain most people think of the outro when talking of November Rain. Of course I would complement the whole band, not just Slash, even for the outro.

Firebird is definately justified being in there - I don't think 1% of the people who know that song would still know it without the solo.

Not a true poll though, because all Gibson guitars. Stairway To Heaven was certainly a telecaster, it was just the sound Jimmy Page wanted for it. No real story behind it.

I find that people tend to 'melt' 3 notes into the intro. It is instantly recognizable. You always hear the crowd go ahhh right at the beginning. I think it the strings that does it.

Not to metion the 'lilting' melody line........

If you read all these polls etc, it seems like Slash hasn't produced a great solo since 1991.....

Try to focus on the fucking topic for once instead of making this yet another "old vs new" thread..

Yeah, let's focus on the topic Jarmo!  hihi

Slash plays the solo on this song which was released in 1991. None of his solos after that seems to appear on these polls.

On the other hand, the new songs on the album by the current band has nothing to do with that.

Maybe if you used your head a bit, you'd see that? Or is it asking for too much?

Wow, easy there! What polls? The polls you make up on your site? Or the polls in some guitar magazines?
What songs make these polls? Are they the "best songs" or the "best known songs"? Maybe if you used your head a bit, you'd realise it's the songs from the latter category.

I'm not taking sides, I like the "old" and the "new" band. I never saw the "old" band live but saw the "new" band three times and I loved all three concerts!

Slash played some great solos since 1991. I don't know if you even own a copy of "Ain't life grand". If you do, maybe it's time to listen to it again. Or do yourself a favor and buy the album "Street Child" by Elan. I"m sure you'll appreciate his work on that album aswell. I do respect your support for the "new" band but why do you always have to be so negative about the "old" members.

One last thing... thank you for not deleting my post.

I have it and no thanks....

I know the solo.

I was stating a simple fact. None of the Snakepit songs are listed among the top guitar solos lists that I've seen......

As you can see, I didn't disrespect his work in GN'R so I don't know how you can say that I'm negative about the old members.  Roll Eyes

We had a short lived radio station come on the air about a year ago here.  They aimed at playing
all sorts of contemporary rock.  Well they started playing November Rain but instead of doing it
right and playing the song in it's entirety (which should be done with every song IMHO) They cut
out all the solo's.  It was like listening to a beautiful slow song that was kind of boring.  And it
always seemed incomplete without the outro solo.  It lasted about a month when they started
playing the full song.

Sat listening to it now and  absolutley love it, but for me it has to be Estranged for gut wrenching solo's.

Whenever I see it on VH1 they cut the outro... It?s a shame cos it is the best part of the song in my opinion.  no

I quite enjoy the demo version of November Rain without the huge solos and huge guitar outro at the end of the UYI version.  The last solo at the end seems out of place to me in the song.  It is a great solo, but seems tacked on.
