We take for granted we know the whole story
November Rain 8th at "Guitar solos that transform a song into a classic" poll
«

Poll from
ultimate-guitar.com
08. Guns N' Roses ? "November Rain" (Slash)
Never mind that the song holds the record for the longest guitar solo in a U.S. Top-10 hit?without all of Slash's hard work you would pretty much be listening to an Elton John tune.
check the rest of the list in here:

Jimmy Bobby says it will blow all that old shit out of the water.
Just kidding Jim Bob
D, it is not fair. And, if it is a "great" solo, many critics will simply say "in finck (or whoever's) previous bands they never played this way. Maybe Axl told them to try and get the Slash solo sound so the GNR fans would accept it more. So they may be viewed as guys trying to emulate Slash's sound. Cause that sound is a "GNR" trademark.

Yes, Slash would have had more input into that one.

Izzy's solo and Slash's one in Estranged are better, IMHO... But even without 'em, Estranged would be a masterpiece, so...

Not sure i agree with that
The guitar melodies and fills are some of the greatest guitar playing EVER.
Estranged is great but without those guitar parts, it would definitely drop a bit.

Wow... No Stairway?
Check out what company the author writes for, and bear in mind that it's fairly well known that the stairway to heaven solo was played on a
fender
telecaster....
Nice to see guns still getting some recognition, though. I imagine nr was one of the great gibson adverts, i can imagine hordes of people trying to emulate slash, outside the church....or slash atop the piano.

Yeah, me too. November Rain is always a little bit overlooked in my opinion, when it comes to the Illusion's epics ... Estranged !!

Why isn't Sweet Child O' Mine in there? It has a longer solo than NR.

Exactly. It would be better or worse. Who knows? But what I know is: without Axl we would not have November Rain.

I love the solo/outro to TWAT. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

That will be awfully impressive considering that AFD is regarded as possibly the greatest Rock N' Roll album of all-time, which according to your theory means that CD is going to supplant it as the new greatest rock n' roll record of all time. Failure to do so according to your theory means that like many other artists, the members of GNR's best work is also in their past. Just being less mediocre than other artists when compared to your best work doesn't seem like much of a prize to me. I thought my expectations for CD were high, but yours blow mine out of the water.
