Everything Louder Than Everything Else

« Reply #40 on: March 03, 2004, 07:51:31 PM »

Dylan wrote it, and thats where the Stones got their name.  Smiley

Actually, The Stones got their name from the album 'Best of Muddy Waters' and the first track was called 'Rolln' Stones Blues'

Keith: Brian was on the phone talking to them, "We'd like to place an ad.  We're available for work, and you can call us at..." The voice on the other end of the line obviously said, "What are you called" Panic. The Best of Muddy Waters album was lying one the floor - and Track One was 'Rollin' Stone Blues'.  So tthe band's name was picked for us by Muddy Waters.

Source: According to The Rolling Stones
Wierd.  I read an interview where Mick said that the name came from the Dylan song...ah well...probably too many drugs...

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

Fuck yeah.

The best version of that song is the live in Berlin one, with Van Morrison. It's fucking incredible. I told Miz to check it out, any money the little bastard never did.  Angry
Actually I did, fool.  And yes, it kicks ass, and now I think about it, Axl would own this song.  Yes.  Someone write him a letter and tell him to cover it.

Steven's drumming made the band; he made a big musical difference.  His sense of swing was the push and pull that gave those songs their feel, afterwards, nothing worked. ~ Izzy Stradlin

"Gimmie shelter" by the Rolling Stones.  I can't think of a single song I have heard that better fits Axl's voice

That would be dope.  But the best - the very best song he could ever cover - no debate needed:

Janis Joplin "Take Another Little Peice of My Heart"

not even sure if that's the name.  but he could wail on it.  slash could help too.

I agree with the -over the hills- or stairway to heaven or Hey hey Momma by Zepplin. Of course anything Zepplin even Iron Maiden and him doing Janis Joplin would be mind blowing.  I even think the gospel stuff would be great, too.  I'd like to hear Amazing Grace.  Maybe he can just do some great covers only requested  by fans. Why doesn't he just blow off this bunch and go with Zack Wylde and his band or the Queen guys. Go with some guys who are just itching to rock the old way HARD and LOUD with great melodies and awesome words.  He needs to find guys dedicated and committed to one band not with their fingers in bunches of everything else. Just finger one thing at a time. HAHA. That's probably why Democracy can't get out.

It'd be cool to hear them do "No Rain" (that catchy overplayed Blind Melon song). It's such a cool concept and has really mellow-sad lyrics that they matched with this upbeat pop type song - as a mocking of the real emotion- Unfortunately, not many people got it and it's still being played on pop stations & taken as a happy little song. I'd love to hear Axl do a darker heavier rendition, expressing the real emotion in it. Maybe as a tribute to Shannon too.

 ok That'd be awesome!

...Janis Joplin "Piece of My Hear"... he could wail on it...

another cool idea  yes
The lyrics would have to be altered though!

I'd say...

"Over the hills and far away" by Zeppelin....

Remember in "Patience" on the BOOZE bootleg, or GNR UNPLUGGED (same show)....before the "Imagine" bit Slash plays the opening riff to this classic tune....

I was so pissed they didn't play more!  What a perfect song for Axl's voice...it starts off slow and soft, "Hey lady...you got the love I need..."  and then it just ERUPTS and his voice could WAIL "Many have I loved!!"

Sigh.

Maybe someday, but probably not....

oh ya, this song rocks, i was gonna say led zeppelin's immigrant song, i'd like to hear axl doing the screaming at the beginning of that one,

basically i'd love to see him do anything by zeppelin, i think he's one of a few who can hit those high notes as good or if not better than robert plant

how can you tell i love anything by led zeppelin

I think we would all love to hear Axl sing the following classics:

If you're happy and you know it (clap your hands)
Humpty Dumpty (sat on a wall)
Twinkle twinkle little star

and who could forget THE classic "It might be released soon (but might is the main word)"

Blah.. Ignore me, I'm bored  Tongue

I'd love to hear him sing that.  Anything AC/DC in fact.

Has Axl ever sung Hair of the Dog live?  I know it's on TSI, but it'd be nice to hear it live.  If/when they tour, they should throw in some TSI songs.

I've got a boot of him singing "Whole lotta Rosie" and "Hair of the Dog".

My favorite is him singing "Jumpin Jack Flash".

I have always thought that the song "This Flight Tonight" by Nazareth has a very Axl-like sound in fact I used to think it was him.

I think he would do a very good rendition of it. And now that I know it came out in the early '70's, to me it's almost like he got inspiration to become a singer from that song, that's how much I think it sounds like him.

Edit: I doubt he did. but the song sounds eerily like him. that was the point I was getting at.
