« on: August 28, 2007, 04:58:48 PM »

just was listening bootleg called Stockholm Illusion n gosh its sounds sooo fucking perfect especially songs from Illusion albums... fucking Dust n Bones Izzy singing with Duff n Axl n Slash playing talk-box fucking raw performance...

I quess year 1991 was n is n always will be my fav GNR year since saw them then live 1st time of my life...

Somehow we should be able to put those guys on stage again together (Slash, Duff, Axl, Izzy, Matt...) cos that Illusion lineup was fucking amazing something larger than life... Dont get me wrong I love Appetite lineup too but use your fucking illusions :-)

I used to hate Matt since he replaced Steven (Steven is still my fav drummer playing Appetite stuff) but no-one can play songs like You could be mine, Garden of Eden, Dont damn me like Matt did...

Opinions please n peace :-)

I have that bootleg. It's great. Far, far, far from perfect though (see Estranged).

Well, I have that bootleg and even though its good, there are several better from the same year, for example:

* GNR Rock Wembley 8/31/91
* Spinning Wheels 12/06/91
* Vanishing Point 12/13/91

all audience recordings like Stockholm Illusion. Even the ''Delusions And Illusions'' (the other swedish date) is better in my opinion.

But I dont agree in a single word with you. I think 1991 was EXACTLY the worst live year. The Illusion songs sounded like crap like most of the November Rain and Estranged versions, 14 years and Dust N' Bones have always sucked and Axl's voice was sometimes out of control.

I highly prefer 1992 and 1993. I also think that, instrumentally, this current lineup is the best of them all. For the people who still wasn't able to see this current lineup (like me), all I can say is that we just need an A+ soundboard recording to fall absolutely in love with this band (we only have the incomplete RAR recording and 2 tracks from Donington and they are all faboulous).

The best is yet to come. I always think that the live evolution of this band depends ONLY on Axl's voice. The instrumental part of the sound is near the limit of perfection in my opinion, and the band gets better or worse if Axl sings good or weak and that's it.

And last (but not least), the LAST thing I want is an old members reunion. The only thing that can finish with my fanatism for GNR is Axl reuniting with Slash/Duff. I dont want them in GNR. GNR needs to grow up, to evolute, and those guys are extremely closed minded (artistically) and they have already done a lot of damage to Guns N' Roses. They should start thinking how to ressurrect that VR crap.

I was just thinking about what a great year 1991 was for GNR.
On stage, Axl was at his peak. He had a spontaneity and a outspokeness that even he has not approached before or since. The band still had Izzy and it was bare but tough.
I'm not sure about the show in Stockholm, but other shows of mine that are dear to me are:

Rock In Rio 1991
Ritz 1991
Alpine Valley 1991 (just Mr. Brownstone)
Indiana 1991
Philadelphia (May and December 1991)
Toronto (1st and 2nd show) 1991
Saratoga 1991 - Get in the Ring Motherfucker
St. Louis (Riot Nite) 1991
London 1991, etc etc etc...

I'm sure there are other shows but nothing compared to 1991.
When else could you see GNR end a show with Welcome to the Jungle (watch it on You Tube, Toronto 1991 2nd show)? Axl Rose spiking a microphone at the end of PC in London?

Axl did things with microphone stands that nobody could even have thought of doing before. Also Slash was more vocal during this period.

With no setlist, GNR was extremely organic on stage and were unpredictable and fun to watch. Having a bigger band in 1992 was a big mistake in some of GNR's shows and took away the rawness that had made their live show a complete phenomenon. 1993 was great, but not compared to the glorious summer of 1991.

yeah 1991 what a year.

I have some around 20 gigs from 1991 on dvd tho havent watchen em all hm will see when have time to do that :-)

But those dvds from St Louis n Indiana are just hm something really really special to me too. Pro shots n set in that year was really good lots of songs from both Appetite and Illusions n Patience from GNR Lies. Izzy singing two songs plus singing Double talkin with Axl sweet indeed.

Rio 1991 I have both nights on dvd plus one Slash cam version. You know when they had that gigs there they did show some 3songs in Finland national TV (patience, mr brownstone, KOHD) n my bro had birthday n house was full of kids age 2-4 and of course I wasnt allowed to watch that gig from tv cos those damn kids needed to play some fucking videogames... nice

1991 and 1992 are by far my favourite years of Guns... those who made me a fan of the band. But especially 92... those 2 concerts in Tokyo will be forever in my mind (it was the first one I saw of the band)... Axl?s voice was perfect, Slash was at is best... I really love that concert (and god... Estranged is so good). Another one of 92 that stand out was the one in Argentina (for bad reasons though)... those three "STOP!" by Axl are just remarkable... I remember watching it for the first time... I was just speechless at first... that show was just so out of control... but then again... it was this pure rock n roll gig that you can?t see anywhere these days  no. Oh... and there?s still the Chigago gig... with that amazing performance of Coma...  peace But then again, in 1991 Izzy was still there... and that gig from RiR, the first of the Illusions tour... without the horns section and stuff like that, just like the AFD era... it was simply amazing. So yeah... 1991 and 92 are the best years of Guns in my opinion... the years where they were the kings of rock n roll... and it was so long ago   Sad

Agreed.. but I've only heard a little bit from the 07' dates and IMO of what I've heard, Axl's voice sounds weaker than in 06'..

Summer '91 was definetely the best time of the old band, in terms of musical diversity.  '87, they did the AFD stuff great, but in '91 they did the AFD stuff passably, along with all the great stuff from UYI like 14 Years, Dust N' Bones, Pretty Tied Up.

That was totally raw, until they got in the horns section to 'expand' their sound.

But i agree, sonically the current line up is very good.  RAR Nightrain is just brilliant.

Who did ? Please explain ? Those who damaged and almost kiled GN'R are no longer in the band. They are in that other rock band with firearm reference in their name. Please, leave them there.

Somehow we should be able to put those guys on stage again together (Slash, Duff, Axl, Izzy, Matt...) cos that Illusion lineup was fucking amazing something larger than life... Dont get me wrong I love Appetite lineup too but use your fucking illusions :-)

Please no. I loved the AFD lineup, hated the UYI one (because of Scrotum) and I fucking love the CD lineup.

No need for a reunion. Steven's in it for the money, Slash & Duff have VR and Sorum can go **** himself for all I care.

People like you don't seem to get that this reunion "dream" will never happen.

ok so to this estebanfs comment "those guys are extremely closed minded (artistically) and they have already done a lot of damage to Guns N' Roses."

so bought from ebay some time ago presskit from Appetite era n there Appetite lineups guys (Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven) tell stories beahind songs:

It's so easy
(Duff): "A song West (Arkeen) and myself wrote. It's an account of a time me and him, and also the rest of the band, were kinda going through. We didn't have money, but we had a lot of hangers on and girls we could basically live off of ... things were just too easy. There's an emptiness; it's so easy."

Welcome to the jungle
(Slash): "That's the first song I had that Axl wrote lyrics to and helped me write. I had the riff part of it."

Paradise city
(Duff): " The chords to that song I wrote when I first moved to L.A. , when I didn't know anybody and was kinda feeling a little dow. So that kinda came out, like reaching for something, you know."

so this kind of "damage" they have done to Guns N Fuckin Roses  estebanf, hope those songs arent your favorite ones...

I said that, not donaltduck. And I think exactly like you: the ones that have damaged GNR are (thank God) no longer in GNR.

I dont know what you're talking about. I am talking about how Slash and Duff did everything they could to make GNR dissapear when they were out from the band, and you're are talking I dont know what about songs from Appetite For Destruction  Huh Huh

lol why so much hate for Mr. Sorum?

Biting the the hand that feeds?

Calling the band ''his fucking Guns N' Roses bullshit''?

I dont know if there are enough reasons to hate him... but there are a lot of good reasons to want Sorum far away from Guns N' Roses.

Sorry Esteban, the poster had problems with the quoting thing, so I was wrong - But anyway we wanted to say the same thing Wink

lol why so much hate for Mr. Sorum?

Because it appears he can't stand up for what he is saying. He is trashing GN'R everytime he gets an opportunity to do so. But when he comes across Axl then suddenly everything's okay.

Anyway, I never liked the guy, even when he was in GN'R (I discovered them with the YCBM single and the Illusions albums) I couldn't stand him. I wish I had the chance to discover GN'R with AFD but hey, that's life.
