Now that I have your attention:

This morning, on my way home, I saw a spectacular blue bolide(a big ass meteor) disintegrate as went across the sky so i thought I would remind everyone that Sunday night/Monday morning the best meteor shower of the year will peak in intensity. One can't really see anything untill after midnight. The best views occur between 3-5 am, because as the Earth rotates, the foward edge is coming into the debris left by a comet Swift-Tuttle(hope that made sense). Meteor showers are best viewed without optical instruments, so the only thing one needs is a set of eyes to see one of the great spendors of the heavans. The Bad Astonomer give a good primer HERE on how to view this event. NASA details HERE on how to view this event.

the great spendors of the heavans.

You mean the Ferengi?

Yeah, definitely best viewed without optical instruments. Ugly bastards.

On a related note, I'll be watching for falling rocks tonight as well. They're kool.

I won't look for some equivocal meaning in that, and just hope you have a good view.

I have my 80mm apo and 0.3m Newt out back cooling. Too, I'm going to check out some other stuff.

I've have my night vision goggles for later ... they make a shower look like a storm.

EDIT : Ok, I'm splitting Mars now. I thought I should give it up. Pretty cool though, 2 alderbarans- 2 Mars, then the Plieades

I just saw the Orion for the first time this "year". I all ways associate the new year with the arrival of Orion; maybe it is just a night shift thing, but it reminds me of rebirth/regeneration. Autumn will be here soon.

"Hello darkness my old friend". It is like a friend has returned after a long journey.

Especially now ... How appropriate

Good, because there was nothing there save for a deliberate misspelling of the word, "cool." And that's hardly major.

As for the topic at hand, I glimpsed a handful. Nothing spectacular. The sky wasn't the best.

here the sky is exceptionally clear but I have only seen a few small trails unfortuantely. Since you mentioned it, I looked for Orion and was pleased to see it as well.
