SLASH Explains Why He Didn't Take Part In GUNS N' ROSES 'Reunion' Gig - Aug. 9, 2007

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash has spoken out about the recent GUNS N' ROSES near-reunion that took place at the Key Club in Hollywood, California and his reasons for not participating in it. Speaking to Mark the Shark of the TK101 radio station in Florida, Slash stated about the July 28, 2007 gig, "I went down there for a minute to say 'Hi' to Steven [Adler, original GUNS N' ROSES drummer, who was headlining the show with his band ADLER'S APPETITE] and what-not. What happened was Steven has finally come out of that sort of haze that he's been in for the last 17 years ? I don't think I need to explain it any more than that. I was sort of instrumental in getting him out of the place he was in into a little bit more sober kind of environment. So I've been hanging out with him and supporting him and stuff. He had that gig that was about to happen, and I'm really jazzed that he's gotten back on the drums and he's gotten ambitious again and he's gonna go out and play. And then at some point he went public and said? Steven's just an excitable guy and he meant well when he said it, but he said that there was gonna be this reunion, that I was gonna be there and Duff [McKagan] and Izzy [Stradlin] and Axl [Rose] possibly, and that just fueled that already rapid-fire kind of GUNS N' ROSES rumors that goes on. Once I started getting phone calls and e-mails from all over the world about this gig, I said, 'You know what? I can't support it as such 'cause that's not what it is.' So I went down there but I didn't wanna get up and play because I didn't wanna fuel that any further. So I think Duff got up and played, and Izzy got up and played, and it was what it was, but I don't see any reunion happening for real."

I think Axl should have least should up , I mean even if Slash and Axl where there I don't think those 2 would play together simply because they have both moved on. Slash was there supporting his long time buddy and ex band mate. I guess what he was trying to say was it was NOT a gnr reunion , and he wouldn't want to further fuel crap which is a smart move. I'm sure Axl respects these guys , maybe he just has to much going on right now , but it be nice to know that they have settled their differences , not musically , but personally.

so slash was there, to play with duff, steven & izzy, without thinking about,
even for just one night, to reunite ? it's a joke.

the only one who doesn't care about a reunion of the appetite line-up of guns
is axl. he wasn't there, for the good reason.

so, two solutions :

1) slash is stupid to haven't seen what steven wanted (but everybody knows it since he said that all the time in the press).
2) he knew it *like everybody else* but came to see if axl will come, and what happens then...

let's face it : slash probably doesn't like too much scott, the second VR record doesn't work,
duff will follow slash anywhere, izzy played with axl recently and have the contact.

I think you're reading too much into this, DeN.  Did you even ready Slash's statement about it?  It sounded reasonable, to me, as to why he didn't play.  It sounds like he feels pretty much the same way many posters here have felt about it.  I doubt he was there just to see if Axl would show up.

BTW, Izzy also played with VR on their last tour, not just GnR.

Thanks, FunkyMonkey, for posting the link!   Smiley

yes i've read the statement of course.
i just don't understand why slash went there and SUDDENLY see what steven wanted behind that.
he knows, like everybody else, steven wishes about a reunion, so what ? i can understand he was
there to support steven izzy & duff, but not why he didn't play the game.

so duff & izzy want a reunion since they played with steven ?

well...

SLASH Explains Why He Didn't Take Part In GUNS N' ROSES 'Reunion' Gig - Aug. 9, 2007

So I think Duff got up and played, and Izzy got up and played, and it was what it was, but I don't see any reunion happening for real."

Slash got higher in my book (if that is possible) after reading this. This just shows the integrity of the man. If he had really wanted to be news all around the world and have more attention over him (even more), he would just have played on it. But he didn?t... cos he?s a fucking reasonable man. I love him and his attitude.

Funny how you never hear Axl speak about a re-union in any way shape or form, but the former members talk about it all the time.

man you should release your fuckin' theory with the upcomin' slash autobiography

you know, it's no big deal or extrapolation here. i read the press, the interviews of the guys,
and look at the sellings of the albums. when someone called his frontman a fraud, say everything
and the opposite about everything, with a LP who doesn't sell very well and has this sort of smart
move *i'm not gonna play but i'm here cause i wanna see what's happening*...

slash is clever, and he has to think about his future after the VR adventure, because it doesn't
smell very good. and i'm pretty sure if axl propose one day to him to rejoin guns he'll accept.

Steven likes to talk about it.  The other 3 are always and forever asked about it, by interviewers.  When was the last time Axl gave an interview?  Lately?  I'm sure if he did, he'd be asked about it, as well.

nice response.  rofl

i could care less what the terms between axl and the other former members are.    but you act like you get sexually excited over personal relationships between former band members.

i only care about the music.. lol.
