Obama says knock you out

« on: August 07, 2007, 04:38:16 AM »

This is a thread for the underdogs. The albums in an artist's catalogue that just get shit on for no good reason. The albums that make their way to the bargain bins well before their time. These are often the stylistic choices later regretted by a band after the media tears them apart. Thanks to a general mob mentality when it comes to popular music, we have albums being released in such a cookie cutter fashion because of those times that someone did step outside of the box ... these are underrated albums. Let's start listing our favorites.

You're almost brave to list St. Anger, but hey I have it (somewhere) and I dig it more than I don't. I still don't get all the hatred towards it.

I dig St. Anger, too.  Its a very aggressive album.  Who cares if it doesnt have guitar solos.

My list:

Danzig 4
Andrew WK  I get Wet
Anything by Faith No More

I probably should not have mentioned St Anger coz it will just turn into a St Anger Sux thread as they alway do.

AC/DC's Flick Of The Switch is one that comes to mind. It's the last album they did where Brian Johnson's voice was truly on top form. It seems incredible that two years later on Fly On The Wall they had to drown him in echo.

Nirvana's debut Bleach is one I like, but it usually gets overshadowed by Nevermind and In Utero. It's got loads of cool songs on it: About A Girl, Floyd The Barber, School, Sifting etc.

And of course, there's The Spaghetti Incident. Quality album. beer

Agree on U2 - Pop

Great album and tour!

The Rolling Stones' Goats Head Soup is criminally underrated and I don't know why. It's one of my favorite albums ever. Great songs like Dancing w/ Mr. D, 100 Years Ago, Silvertrain and specially Winter

Also Springsteen's Born in The USA get a lot of shit because people misinterpret the message of the title song. But it has some awesome tunes in there

yes, it's great peace
i'd say shout at the devil- motley crue

Since MC often get this cheesy 80's ballad-band sticker, this album is true heavy metal at it's finest headbanger

Hard Nose The Highway by Van Morrison.........I have no idea why this album slipped into outprinted obscurity...it's actually one of his better works.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I have always loved this album. It is the perfect marriage of Trent Reznor and Rob Halford.

Good call, Amused To Death is definatly a fantastic album. Water's best solo piece, and in my oppinion, the best solo album from any of the Floyd guys.

Staying with the Floyd theme here, The Final Cut is underrated in my oppinion. Amazing lyrics and compesition. It could do with a bit more Gilmour, but when he does appear he really does make a mark.
