Play it as if he is apeing Shatner - in fact, do a Shatner!

Then surely the role must go to Kevin Pollack. Or, god, I don't know. . . William Shatner?

Nah, you'd need a good character actor to do William Shatner justice.

A 1960s style style Star Trek, like the original TV series could work. Pure action and Matt has done the Bourne films.

High Octane Star Trek!

How Kirk became Captain!

You know what would be better? Doing what Star Trek has always done, make new characters with new stories. You could still have Matt Damon, you could even call him Kirk - shit, there should be enough Shatner-seed in space to have an entire ship's complement of Kirks. Then you come up with original ideas and make them into films! I know, it's a radical approach that's only been tried five times in the history of the franchise and only succeeded four times but I think that with enough money and enough big-name actors and enough good writers and producers Paramount could make at least ONE Star Trek movie which isn't a rehash of the tv shows. I have faith in them.

So why Matt Damon?  Tongue
He's not exactly the world's leading character actor.

Leonard Nimoy is in this movie, but no Shatner. The injustice!

When I see 'done like the original 60's series' - I mean done exactly like that. Give it a major comic book feel.

Damon would be able to highlight some quirky aspects about Kirk's character.

Damon isn't ham enough to be a comic-book-Kirk. He has too much taste and/or talent. Ben Affleck, on the other hand, is almost 2D anyway, he'd be perfect for Stolat's Pen-And-Ink Star Trek Project.

I really don't think they'll get Damon for this movie. They seem to be aiming much lower with the other cast members.

He'd bring credibility to the project and I think he has a talent for quirkiness/comedy ( a la Nick Cage)...

Shame about the casting (and vision) then.

It's Paramount, they think that just rolling out the Star Trek name again will give them all the credibility they need (given their record so far, they don't have any credibility in the bank to begin with so I'm not sure why they aren't trying harder). There are scores of people with experience in handling this franchise yet the studio puts it in the hands of JJ Abrams, god knows why. And the guy they cast as Spock is, as far as my research can discern, "some tv actor."

So as far as "vision" goes they seem to be running on empty.

That's just disturbing. And who would play Bones? Stephen Colbert?

You wrote that the same way Sam Neil says: I would have liked to have seen Montana.........in the Hunt for Red October!

Who is Janeway? Who is Steven Colbert?

Yeh, Bones would be the tricky one to cast. Would you go for the Scottish Accent?

scottish accent....... bones?.......... if you were have the ST fan you are tring to pull off you would not have made such a grievous error when speaking of the prgional cast. I was even going to let slide the "i watched all 6 movies statement as there are many people that just dont like next gen, and only like TOS, however with such a obvious mistake put forward I must call Bull Shit on you sir. Go rewatch the marathon of all 6 movies and tell me again bones has a scottish accent.

Heh, I thought the "Matt Damon for Kirk" comment easily outweighed the numeric issues. I'm sure that De Kelly and Jim Doohan are slap-fighting in their graves over that last one though.
